Default Some intriguing news regarding the WDT tins...

Hey guys, just got an email back from Mr. Maltin, and there's some intriguing news in there...It seems Destino WASN'T going to make an entire 2-disc tin feasible:

Quote:
Hi... In brief: Destino is no longer part of the Treasures series, and will be released as a single disc some time later this year. I have been told that the series will continue but I have no information or knowledge about WDHV's thoughts on adapting them for BluRay. I'm still hoping to do those educational shorts, but that depends on whether or not they like my "pitch."
As for the edited versions of those 1940s features, I share your frustration, but I have no input with the company on that front. I just feel lucky I can present the films uncut on our Treasures series!
If you're wondering why he mentioned the edited versions of the 1940 features, I did a bit of screaming in the email regarding the recent Classic Caballeros Collection.

Interesting. I did wonder how they were going to fill two disks with what would basically be bonus material for a single short movie. I'll probably still buy the Destino disk, even if it's not part of the Treasure sets, though.

I'll not call these news "intriguing" but depressing
I'm afraid they'll no more make the documentary about the unfinished Disney projects (which looked to be about both animated shorts and features), supposed to be included in a two-discs release of "Destino".
Our only hope is that they'll do an "Educational" set or something animation-related.

It was a project than Walt and Salvador Dali worked in 1946 but the short was uncompleted. It was released much later in 2003 in theaters with many awards recognisations. It's too bad they make in a one-disc DVD but i think it's much reasonnable like that.

How were they expecting to fill up an entire 2-disc set based around a short that is probably 6 minutes long?

Did Maltin say that the documentary would be scrapped? Even if Disney cuts down the number of discs, there would still be tons of room for it. Better yet, the Destino disc would be the perfect place to stick Lorenzo, Redux Riding Hood, How to Hook Up You Home Theater, etc.

I think it'll all show up somewhere, some time Duck Dodgers ... I'm actually kind of relieved, because for a 2 disc Treasure set, I thought we were easily looking at the short & the documentary you mentioned, and a LOT of padding. This move makes sense, and in my opinion, will allow the next wave of Treasures to retain a lot more integrity.

Any further info on the "Educational Shorts" Maltin was referring to? I apologize if I missed a previous thread before I joined.

I would love to have on DVD:
  1. Doanld in Mathemagical Land
  2. Ranger's Guide to Nature
  3. It's Tough to Be a Bird
Were these being considered? What are the others not already mentioned in this thread?

"Donald in Mathmagicland" has been released on DVD. It is available only to members of the Disney Movie Club.

There is no fee to join the club, but you must make a commitment to buy at least 5 titles over a 2 year period.

The club offers "members only" discs on a regular basis. The other "members only" disc of interest to animation fans is a non-Treasures DVD release of "The Reluctant Dragon."

If you want information on how to join, PM me and I'll get you the information.

It's also available on region 2 DVD in Europe, as part of the "Walt Disney's Fables" series
