No wonder the show sucks even more than it already did.

Very.

Cartoons never were just for children. And neither is it a genre. It is an artistic medium where the use of caricatures are used to entertain or educate, with animation bringing said caricatures to life.

With such contemporary cartoons as The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and the Adult Swim line-up, it's hard to dismiss the animated cartoon as only kids' fare. Cartoons can be for anyone. It's pure common sense.

I guess that's why animation will never have another "golden age" or "silver age", or etc....

I think it's been hit and miss recently, but I think the nadir was reached a fair while ago now.

Thad,

You are mistaken about the layout crew on the Simpsons. Bob Jaques just emailed me to confirm (after hearing me call in at Stu's Show) that the layout department is still around.

The number of artists, however, were reduced.

(Yeah, the Animation Guild blog made it seem that it got shut down)

Guss what, I want the Simpsons to shut down for good. The gag has been running to long me thinks.

CGI is probably worse for the environment, what with all the electrical resources being used as well as since most CGI movies are outsourced to Japan and India, there may be some transportation issues too.

Traditional animation is much more "green". You can recycle paper, reuse cels, and I believe film is recyclable too, as well as there is less electricity used for making traditionally animated films in general.

But that's don't stop me to think that The Simpsons golden age was passed away since really longtime. Matt Groening should never do cartoons shows anymore. He shows too much his small know-it-all everywhere in the show.

And i agree with Dandu, it will be nicest that traditional animations can be use to recycling papers and cels while CGI request much electricity than a normal house can have. (Without realised how we each paid the salty electricity company bill!! )

i wish they would go back to traditional animation. i would much rather watch a movie with the animation from 101 Dalmations for example over movies like Hoodwinked. while i do like a lot of CGI animated features, animation should stay as the way it was. that doesn't mean they can't CGI of course, but at least even things out. and i must agree with what was said about the Simpsons, they should have stopped producing that show years ago.

Greoning's impact on his shows is close to zilch. He's a nice guy and everything, but there's no denying he's one of the luckiest men alive on a work-fortune ratio.
