I'm a big fan of the stories present in the show. I used to be REALLY obsessed with the series 2 years ago, even before I got to actually watch some episodes. Reading the Wikipedia summaries left me fascinated. I'm a sucker for well-written storylines, unusual settings and intelligent twists, which the Zone has in a generous quantity.
I have to admit, though, some great tales had a less-than-great execution. "The Gift", for instance, had one of my favorite twists on paper. I imagined it so atmospheric, so masterfully directed...And the episode didn't live to that. But hey, doesn't detract from it being a series that I'll always treasure dearly. It dared to be different, and it worked wonders. Right now I'm on a hurry, but I'll go in depth on more stuff later.

I bought that giant ultimate boxset not too long ago. The episodes look great -- good remastering without going overboard on the digital effects.

The series was always one of my favorites when I used to watch it on TV a few decades ago. I agree that it was well written and intelligent allegorical science fiction.

There's a good book written about the series called "The Twilight Zone Companion" that I recommend.

The 80s revival was underrated and had some very talented people working on it; Wes Craven and Joe Dante for example. There's even a film based on an 80s TZ story coming out soon (The Box). I suspected it worked better in just those 15 minutes.

I recall when the first season came out...It had a book attached to it. Was it that one? Certainly looked interesting. Couldn't buy it at the time, though...

The first season of the 80's series must be one of the best revivals done in the history of TV. Seriously. Some of the stories were on par with the best of the original Zone, I swear.

Watch this one, fellas, 8 minutes filled with greatness.

Here's an excellent blog that follows the eighties' revival almost completely...It's a shame that it isn't updated anymore.

No, the book is a paperback that analyzes every episode of the original series. It's available HERE at amazon.

You're not saying they added effects, are you?

No, I meant they avoided stuff like edge enhancements and DVNR.

There was a smaller copy of that book attached to the 1st season originally, most copies now don't have it included anymore, though I have seen a few with the book still there.
