55 years and they're both still as fast and furry-ous as ever. I think now would be the time to regale you with an excerpt from Chuck Jones' book "Chuck Reducks"...

Quote:

"Mike Maltese and I were in one of our dreamy reveries when the clatter of [Eddie Selzer's] dentures drew our attention to the stubby marplot of our stories standing a-tremble in a rage at our doorway.

'How,' he demanded, shaking our dialogue sheets for Fast and Furry-ous in front of us, 'do either of you ignoramuses spell 'few-ree-us'?'

'I don't know,' Mike said. 'How would you spell 'few-ree-us', Chuck?'

'Ef-you-are-eye-oh-you-ess,' I replied . Snap!

Eddie had the fascinating ability to foam at the eyes, which he did when he was happy about the faults of others. His eyes foamed redly now as he stabbed a hairy, cigar-stub-shaped index finger at the offending word: 'Furry-ous.'

'Then how come? How come?' - as though one 'How come?' wasn't enough - 'How come you spelled it 'ef-you-are-are-why-oh-us'?'

'I think I understand everything but the 'are-are,'' Mike said. To me: 'Perhaps you can explain.'

'The 'are-are' is part of 'furry,'' I said to Eddie. 'Furry is what coyotes are. Coyotes are also fast, hence, 'Fast and Furry'.'

'The 'us',' explained Mike, 'is for Chuck and me.'

'And for Mr. Jack Warner,' I added. (If you were Eddie you always said 'Mister'.) 'His secretary told us he loved the title.'

'Well, I like it too!' said Eddie. 'I mean, who wouldn't? It's a great title.'

'We have another one,' Mike said. 'I know you'll like it. Fierce and Fur-most. And we also thought up a great slogan for Warner Bros. pictures: 'If it's a Warner Bros. picture, you don't have to stand in line.''

Eddie's wattles slapped joyously together. 'Wonderful! Wonderful!'

And off he went, buckety-buckety, to tell Jack Warner."
