Which Of These Beaky Buzzard Shorts Is Your Favorite?

Yep, another forgotten WB star gets his own poll.

Duck Dodgers 06-08-2005 09:15 AM

the clampett ones, where he is still voiced by great kent rogers, expecially the first one!

UncleJunior 06-08-2005 09:21 AM

"Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid".

Clampett was the best at the characterization of Beaky.

Cdawg 06-08-2005 09:49 PM

Yep! Bugs Bunny Gets The Boid rates number 1 on my list!

I voted STRIFE WITH FATHER. I enjoy all the antics with Beaky and his adoptive English sparrow father. I particularly enjoy the ending in which Beaky says "That's no king! That's Monty!"

LooneyFan 06-08-2005 10:52 PM

I never saw "The Bashful Buzzard" and "Strife with Father". So I picked "Hold the Lion". Beaky's crazy antics to get lion for dinner. And Bugs makes a cameo!

I don't remember seeing Bugs in The Lion's Busy (by Friz Freleng c. 1950).

That wasn't Bugs. That's what I thought at first here, but a while ago someone posted a pic here of that scene where you saw the rabbit up close. He really didn't look much like Bugs there.

The Bashful Buzzard gets my vote.

Duck Dodgers 06-09-2005 02:56 PM

the lion's busy is a funny cartoon anyway but i go for bugs bunny gets the boid.

the bashful buzzrs got great gags too...i suppose he got an original opening sequence much like the one in bugs bunny gets the boid...too bad we only have a blue ribbon copy of this funny short

Beaky's line in that cartoon "You contemptable piece of shh-shoeleather" was funny. I bet if they were allowed to, the staff would have used the word.

Great things seem to have been planned for Beaky in the mid-1940s... but I guess they just never bore fruit. WB animation staffers working nights on the comics used him constantly at the time, in a passel of generally very funny stories.
Ah, for the days of Beaky angrily turning down "thet no-good huckster whut tried ta sell me th' Brooklyn Bridge... when I already bought thet bridge last time I came tuh th' city! Th' idea... tryin' tuh sell me m' own property!"

I went with "Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid":bugs2:
