Since the Bosko's Picture Show thread doesn't seem to be a viable place to debate the quality of the cartoon, and it's time for another Hit/Miss poll, I thought I'd just post this seperate thread about the cartoon.
For a Bosko cartoon, it's a Hit. Certainly one of the more original cartoons in the series, and the 1930's movie references are actually quite interesting. It certainly can't compare with what WB would be doing 15 years later with Bugs and Daffy. But it's still a nice diversion, and certainly beats the pants off any Buddy cartoon.

It's one of the best Bosko cartoons that I've seen (out of only a few).

I love it, it's a shame a good print is so rare, complete with Hitler and the swear word. It's one of the best Bosko's I've seen and I've seen a lot!

BOSKO'S PICTURE SHOW is certainly a great cartoon--it was one of the first Warner's toons to contain a generous portion of celebrity caricatures, for one thing--but BOSKO IN PERSON is even better. Thanks largely to the animation of the young Bob McKimson, Bosko and Honey had more fluidity in their movement, more personality than in any other Warner's cartoon of the time. Bosko does a little Senor Wences-type bit with a humanized version of his own glove, and Honey does a little bluesy number ("That's The Human Thing To Do") that's absolutely mind-blowing. (I liked it so much I use a clip of it as part of the opening of the Orphan Toons Podcast). One scene,
which surely must have been animated by McKimson, has Bosko scrunch up his face as he launches into a long note to begin his musical number. Bosko's expressions had never before been quite that varied or subtle. Better still, both Bosko and Honey do impressions--Bosko of Durante, and Honey of Garbo. The Warner's Boskos were never better than that, and it makes one wonder what Harman and Ising might have been able to do with the character had they stayed with Schlesinger a bit longer.

I haven't seen much of the Bosko shorts, but I have seen this one. This is the greatest one of the bunch. :bosko:
