Now that Dick Lundy's sole Droopy has made it to Youtube, I'm wondering what everyone thinks.

Personally, I find it shows Lundy's touch in how it plays like a Woody Woodpecker cartoon with Droopy and the Wolf substituted for Woody and Buzz Buzzard (and the awkward ending, without even a closing Droopy quip, is oddly Lantz-esque as well)

I like the broad animation, but the cartoon isn't as funny as an Avery or Hanna-Barbera cartoon from MGM. The pace is also a little slow. Most of the gags were already done in past Avery cartoons, too. I also thought Droopy was a little out of character when he thought the kiss was unsanitary. (Why was he serenading the senorita for if he thought that?) In an Avery cartoon, Droopy would have told the audience that he was happy.

I get the feeling Lundy leaned more toward the Disney style, but had to earn a living making Warner style cartoons. I've got to give Caballero Droopy some points for it's slickness, but as a whole it's unsatisfying.

Interesting Disney point--come to think of it, the Wolf does come across as an "evil alter ego Goofy" sort of character.

If nothing else, the musical aspect's charming--especially in the dueling-serenaders segment (tap tap-tap tap tap)

The "unsanitary" gag reminds me of the one in Rebel Rabbit where Bugs reminds us, "Goims and stuff...remember?". Was there some sort of public health issue at the time that these cartoons are making fun of??
