Classic Media seem to have released all three volumes of this on the same day, July 24th 07. Most likely trying to cash in on the abomination that is the Underdog movie being released in the near future.

I never got the first three Underdog releases due to the thrashing it got from critics. These DVD releases will more than likely get the same treatment. Now I'm starting to think, maybe I should just give in and buy them along with the new ones and all the Tennessee Tuxedo DVDs and so forth. It looks like Classic Media will never learn anyway and release them the way I want anyway and all my Underdog VHS tapes are all broken and in bits.

The issue that was frowned upon most from previous Underdog releases was the fact that they were not presented in the original format they were shown on TV and I'm certain that this release will have the same problem.

Question:
What I want to know is (judging from previous releases ); is it possible to personally edit these DVDs yourself, onto VHS or whatever, in such a way that it replicates the original TV format? In other words, is there enough to work with (title/bridging sequences and so forth) to make it seem in some way authentic? I'd even have fun doing it! I'm a sad mo' fo'. :(

If somebody who remembers the show and owns these releases could answer my above queary, I'd be very much appriciative of their services!

I own the original Underdog DVD boxset plus i have 3 Tennesse Tuxedo VHS tapes
I remember Underdog it was on Nickelodeon
I saw the trailers and TV Spot and the film is definitely godawful
I can't believe critics like this crappy movie plus it got 4 stars WTF!
I believe Disney jacked them with crack or something to make them say positive garbage about this movie

Yes...those were released some years ago and apparently (I don't have them) they are a compilation of the foreign syndicated version of Underdog, which also includes a lot of non-Underdog Show characters from other Total TV shows. The DVDs released in the US so far are a "poor man's" version of these sets. Recompiled shows, original titles replaced with cheesy synthesized intros, etc. What's frustrating is that the technical quality is so good.

In a word, no.

Too much is missing: most of the original show openings and closings, many interstitials, and worst of all, the original titles on all the cartoon segments, which have been removed and replaced by newly-created title cards with really pathetic music. Also, the 4-part Underdog storylines have all been cut into one long cartoon and all the "cliffhanger" stuff has been chopped out. (That being said, the recent DVDs do have some formerly rare stuff on them, including some bumpers, promos, an Underdog "next week preview" segment, audio of the Tennessee Tuxedo theme song recording session including alternate takes and breakdowns, etc., so they aren't really a "total" loss.)

However...at least in the US, a lot of these original cartoons still resurface from time to time, albeit in recompiled syndicated formats. But although the stuff is all scrambled and jumbled together, most of it is all there, even if it's been scattered among several different syndicated packages.

It's also worth hunting for the old "Underdog Super Series" VHS tapes released in the early 1990s by UAV. These tapes also threw together a seemingly random selection of cartoon segments, but at least their individual original title cards were left intact, and most of the individual segment intros for the various characters were in there somewhere. Some of the tapes even had the original Underdog "Post No Bills" closing credits sequence, uncut (albeit with "Cartoon Cut-Ups" aka "Syndicated Underdog" music dubbed onto it).

I recently acquired the 3 volumes ot the "Ultimate Underdog Collection" at my local Bi-Lo

And to be sheer honest and true blue, From what i've seen so far Classic Media seems to have done a better job on this than their last Underdog DVD collection which is basically from the recent "The Underdog Show" syndication prints

I'll probably end up buying them anyway. My biggest problem is that I don't live in the US and the last time I saw the original Underdog cartoon series on TV was 1994. I do own a couple of "Underdog Super Series" VHS tapes, but they're in bits. They're all bumpy and scratchy and hardly ever work. I've had them for years:o.
