View Full Version : Classic Cartoons on View-Master
I have just posted frames from a 1967 View-Master reel featuring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.

Does anyone else remember the good ol' days when View-Master created little sets to take pictures of to create a 3D world? Long before CG came along that is....
Geez, I'm old.

I had a bunch of those View-Master reels as a child, too. I had ones with sculpted versions of the Peanuts cast and The Flintstones.

Wow, those are great. I will link to the post on Misce-Looney-ous later tonight. I loved those View-Master reels with the 3-D models of cartoon characters growing up, my dad gave me a few sets he had when he was a kid. I remember having ones of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Woody Woodpecker.

I did a post last year about the McFarlane Hanna-Barbera toys that were coming out and in it, I included the cover of the Quick Draw McGraw ViewMaster reels. You can see that here:

I always liked the ViewMaster reels with the little models of the characters better than the later ones that were drawn. I think the reason is that the drawn ones aren't really 3-D... there are just elements on different planes.
Back in the 70's, Disneyland once did a window display with the figures from one of the Winnie the Pooh reels. It was really cool to see them in person. Two things struck me... they were way smaller than I expected them to be and they were literally only painted where the camera was going to see them!
Wish I had held onto my other Roadrunner reels....
I was actually inspired by this photo found on Flickr.

I think I had Bugs Bunny reels as well?

I remember having one of Sylvester & Tweety as a kid..based on "Room and Bird", I believe, because the first time I saw that cartoon I remembered some of the gags from the Viewmaster slides.
