What is your favorite Fleischer bros classics?

Mine is definitely Betty Boop cartoons. It's full of inventive, surreal gags. Everytime I watched BB cartoons, I found something new. Yes, Hays Code stripped away Betty's sexy aspect. But, we still have pre-hays code BB masterpieces and even later day BB cartoons, they still have many surrealistic gags. My personal favorite BB cartoon is I HEARD. So many classic gags, I love those stair-chorus scenes, it's so surreal and charming:) Fleischer bros are truly incredible talents and they deserving more respect!

If you have any particular favorite Fleischer bros classics, please let me know. thanks.

I have been watching a handful of the Betty Boop shorts on the new DVD set (the one that comes with a free keychain). I'm going to be in the minority here, but I like the later Betty Boop cartoons. The earlier ones were hands down the best, but the later ones were still really cute, and entertaining. I like Pudgy, he was a cute little dog.

The Popeye Cartoons, a good majority of the Betty Boop Cartoons, and a good majority of the Color Classics I find to be the most enjoyable. I also enjoyed the RAggedy Anne and Andy Two Reeler that they did, as well as the Superman Cartoons that they did.

Popeye has everything, good gags, good storys, good art, good music, etc. The Betty Boops are really fun and surreal, before 1934 at least. Afterwards its really well drawn, but it doesn't have much else. Color Classics, except for a few like An Elephant Never Forgets, Poor Cinderrella and Hold It! are just pretty pictures but not much else. Koko is really great to watch, every cartoon has it's own little twist or turn to make it full of enjoyment! The Screen Songs vary quite a bit, the first couple of years 1924-1926 are quite boring, the songs arent too peppy and theres only like a few seconds of animation, the later years around 1930-1933 (I havent seen any past 1933) are really fantastic!

This one really should've been a multiple choice poll. I cast a write-in vote for all of the above. :D

I voted for Betty, but I also enjoy some of the early Talkartoons that came out before Betty had her own series. The early Bettys were Talkartoons. I enjoy both Talkartoons that have Betty in them and Talkartoons that do not. Talkartoons is not an option in the poll. But I would also vote for "all of the above" too!

If multiple choices were allowed I would have voted for Popeye, Superman, and Betty Boop all three. :D

Well Popeye comes in first, with Betty(pre-code only) coming in second...But you forgot to add the Talkartoons to the list.

Popeye is me favorite cartoon from the Fleischers without a doubt (I even own some on 8mm and super 8mm film! Only silent though:( )

Popeye The Champ -- Let's You and Him Fight?, super 8 silent, unknown if shortened or not, as i have not received this film yet.
Dream Walking -- A Dream Walking, Regular 8, non-shortened and 10 min at 18fps/100ft
Crossed Wires -- Hold The Wire, Regular 8, shortened and runs at around 3 minutes at 18fps/50ft
Fancy Skater -- Seasin's Greetinks (stupid ending on this 8mm film), Regular 8, shortened, ends before Popeye eats his spinach, about 3 minutes at 18fps/50ft
Circus Man -- The Man On The Flying Trapeze, Regular 8, shortened, end part only, runs at 1-3 minutes (very short :( ) at 18fps/20-50ft
Popeye The Nursemaid -- Sock-A-Bye Baby, Regular 8, shortened (whole music-school scene cut), runs at about 3 minutes at 18fps/50ft

I also have most of the Fleischer Popeyes on my computer in full sound (some colorized), most courtesy of Dandu, the "Korean Kolorization King!," and some from some video sites (Youtube, Dailymotion, Guba, GoogleVideo, etc.).

Some of the later talkartoons were actually Betty Boop Cartoons (only the earliest ones, though)! :betty:

If I must choose one, it's gotta be Popeye.

Of all Fleischer works, the Popeye series has the single most important secret ingredient which makes or breaks a golden age cartoon – a great character!

That said, if you could group the latter-day Screensongs with the Talkartoons, that bunch would give Popeye serious competition, even without a character (Betty notwithstanding)... stunning surrealist animation – cartoon-y to say the least.

Fleischer "Sceen Songs" definitely. They started in the 30's I believe...

I voted for Popeye.

Taken as a whole series, Superman would be tough to top - but there really aren't all that many titles.

The Popeyes are simply near and dear to my heart as those have been my favorite cartoons since I grew up watching them on TV.

While I saw some Betty Boops as a kid, it wasn't until I reached my adult years that I really got to see most of her series. I especially love the early cartoons that feature Betty, Ko-Ko, and Bimbo as a team. Unfortunately, when they had to tone Betty down and added Freddy and Pudgy to the cast, the quality really started to slip badly (with the exception of the Grampy cartoons).

So Popeye ahead of Betty by just a nose with Superman bringing up a close third. But as you can probably guess from my user name, I love just about everything the Fleischer Brothers produced.

Talkartoons should have been included on this poll. And what about Bimbo?
