I love Richard Condie's cartoons. THE BIG SNIT, LA SALLA and GETTING STARTED are all my favorites. especially THE BIG SNIT is one of my favorite contemporary cartoons. This Oscar-nominated cartoon is pure delight. Interesting animation, great surreal gags and touching ending. Condie really reached his prime with this cartoon. I found THE BIG SNIT as a part of WORLD'S GREATEST ANIMATION vhs tape. WORLD'S GREATEST ANIMATION is truly great modern cartoon collection. My absolute two favorites are THE BIG SNIT and Tex Avery homage TECHNOLOGICAL THREAT (if you're Avery fan, must see this cartoon. amazing homage to Avery's cartoon style and gags) Ever since I saw THE BIG SNIT, I've tried searching other Condie cartoons. I saw LA SALLA (another Oscar-nominated) and GETTING STARTED. But still can't find THE APPRENTICE. Anybody ever saw this Condie cartoon? And is this available any kind of home video release?
Anyway, I love Condie's unique sense of humor. I'm very happy to find out THE BIG SNIT as one of mr. Jerry Beck's 50 greatest cartoons. Condie is a one incredible talent. And I wish he made more cartoons in the future. Any Richard Condie fans? If so, please let me know, thanks.

I don't know if its ever been available in print, but you might try the NFBC's website:
www.nfb.ca (http://www.nfb.ca/)
If it's currently in print and available, they'll have it there. Some of their shorts have been available for viewing at their site as well. I hope this information helps you.
Best of luck to you-The Apprentice is worth seeing.
May this find you happy and healthy.

I know of this tape you've found. It was released by Expanded Entertainment around '93 or so, a subsequent LD was released by Voyager Entertainment and is a definate buy if you can find it (had to pay top dollar for it on eBay). A later DVD release from Image Entertainment's OK, but lacks the cool extras of the LD. After having seen it about 12 years ago, I pretty much seen far better things because of it.

My public library had some of his films on VHS otherwise (La Salla was one one VHS tape all by itself). I've also seen The Apprentice as well (probably have that on tape/disc already).

I pretty much favored "Getting Started" more out of them all since I often see myself being that guy all the time! :D

Glad to hear from you again! Yeah, the NFBC would be a good place to check out in case you can't locate any vids at the main public library branch like I have. Often I hear when it comes to buying videos from them, you shouldn't browse through the already sorted "animation" section as there tends to be more animated videos that pop up that aren't listed through that category.
By the way, the "World's Greatest Animation" was meant to reflect those films that were nominated or won Academy Awards between 1978 to 90, and it's a pretty good compilation for starters to get some idea of the different techniques and concepts seen in animation. Many shorts contained there aren't currently available outside the many that often show up online such as on YouTube. The company that released that was a subsidiary of Animation Magazine as I've read someplace once, and they originally used to do a theatrical run of animation festivals in the 80's that also had VHS releases as well (International Tournee of Animation and Animation Celebration). Those tapes might show up on eBay, but often go for steep prices once it's all said and done (the tapes often went for $30 and up I think). Some of their titles were also availalbe on Laserdisc from Lumivision. EastWest DVD somehow got ahold of a couple of them for their cheap $1 DVD's (please don't buy these and support them).

"Pig Bird"
This was made for the Canadian custom authorities as a means of conveying the rules one should know when it comes to what you bring or take away from the country. Pretty much Condie's animation there works effectively for that message.
