View Full Version : Yay or gay: Daffy's inn trouble

It's one of the latest Daffy/Porky cartoons, and it goes in the traditional way since both characters look just themselves, not playing any role, Porky is not a slave of Daffy etc. I think this one is a borderline "yay", and IMHO it's a bit underrated. Probably it's one of the few watchable McKimson shorts from the 60s.
How could this cartoon be homosexual?
If I'm reading this right, gay is 'bad'. Why?

I figure that oceansoul is probably using definition #4.

I voted for gay because Porky and Daffy are so merry in this cartoon.

I see our friend oceansoul is from Budapest, and may not be using 'gay' the same way Americans would these days. Correct me if I'm wrong, oceansoul.

Plus It rhymes with Yay (I don't tihnk he meant anything mean or derogatory by it). If Oceansoul had used Lous-ay or Stink-ay, it would've been even worse.

Probably would've been better to say "nay", since there are no signs of colored flags in this cartoon. :D
I vote "yay", because this would be the last time we see Daffy as an employee under Porky Pig, one of the last surviving remnants of Daffy's original characterization before A) he became an angry a--hole, and B) Porky was relegated to the sidekick status.

Finally an ontopic post. :daffy:
Sorry guys if you feel offended, it was just a joke since nowadays we see thread like "sweet or sour" or "fav or flop", and I tried to follow this fashion.;)
Please let the discussion steer to ontopic from now, pls.

"Daffy's Inn Trouble" is gay. Oh no, I say it is gay when it is oh my a normal straight.
I have mixed feelings about this short. I'll call it a bisex:D
I always like the idea of Daffy and Porky paired and I agree with Mr. Semaj's post but it's strange to see the "evil" Daffy paired with good ol' Porky.
Off Topic (sorry, oceansoul ol' buddy): I'm sure that our oceansoul friend only wanted to make a title with a funny rhyme not to open any debate about the current opinion about homosexuality between classic cartoons viados.....er....aficionados:D
Case dismissed. Next case: "Sogturtle and the emoticons abuse".
"Dear Mr. Turtle, what have you done the night......"
:p (Darnfool GACer strikes again)

Just a small sidenote: Here in America, "gay" is often used by grade school and high school kids to denote something that's lame/stupid. :tweety:
Anyway, I voted "Yay." This would be the last time we saw Porky until 1965's Corn On The Cop (not counting his brief cameo, if that was even supposed to be him, in Dumb Patrol). And here, Daffy and Porky are tops in terms of comedy and chemistry (the best part being IMO Daffy's failed attempt at gaining publicity after seeing Porky's vaudeville act at his hotel). It's also nice to see Porky, once again, as the astute (pun not intended) straight man, with Daffy as his resentful b*tch. Unlike in Corn On The Cop, where Porky was just as big a doofus as Daffy, and the two wound up being duck and pig versions of Laurel and Hardy.

I vote "yay". Tons of laughs in this short, like the boulder bouncing over Porky's inn and onto Daffy's, the first customer turning out to be a robber, the live action footage of Porky's dinner show, the broken record scene, and other jokes I'm probably forgetting. The animation isn't half bad, either; granted it's less expressive than the earlier eras but it does the job and the timing on a lot of the gags is perfect.
The ending line is also great: "You know... if he really put his mind to it, he could be positively OBNOXIOUS."

I think oceansoul meant gay in the South Park sense. "Oh! That's totally gay, dude."
Anyway, for this cartoon. I vote a marginal Yay. It's not at all horrible but it's leagues away from the best stuff Porky and Daffy have ever done.
