I just saw Angel Puss today. In the last year I've seen people talk negatively about the cartoon, but it is better than I had expected, even though it is also more dramatic than I expected.
And it seems like the cat is really the bad guy. At the beginning, the cat sneaks out of the bag. And the black kid almost decides against throwing the cat into the water. His concience gets the better of him, and he almost decides not to do it, and then the cat hides behind him and talks him into it. He still resists for awhile, but eventually the cat pushes him into throwing the bag (that he thought the cat was in) into the water. If it weren't for the cat encouraging him to throw the bag into the water, he wouldn't have done it. I guess the cat just wanted to haunt him that badly.
At the end, they both get what they deserve; The cat deserved to be shot and killed, and the boy deserved to be spooked by nine different ghosts of the cat (for killing it). But I think that the cat deserved to be shot more than the boy deserved to be spooked.
