If you look on my profile, you will find that I'm many things, all of it true and factual. But one thing I have not mentioned there is that, considering myself a creative person. I have also been known to sketch and write-may have to add that to my profile.

I've created a number of characters in my day, some mainstream, some cutting edge. A few characters that are more contemporary, but being a fan of the Old School when it comes to animation, I have also been kicking around a few ideas of sketching some characters I'd created, all with that 1930's-1940's look and feel. Could something like this sell today? Could I possibly get takers should i pitch the ideas to say, Cartoon Network?

Any input from the membership on this board would be welcome!

Fan4Life,

Why don't you make a cartoon? If you want to pitch it to a network, you'll have a working pilot.

Fan4Life,

Why don't you make a cartoon? If you want to pitch it to a network, you'll have a working pilot.

That's not the way to present the concept, or as they say, pardon the expression that I dislike, "make the pitch." Your best approach is to make up a presentation book called "The Bible," which explains the foundation of the concept, including cast of characers, their descriptions, character designs, and sample story premises that suggest continuing stories.

This is far more practical then just "making your own cartoon," especially if you have no experience making one. The act of watching a lot of cartoons is a far cry from making one yourself. It takes a lot of time to make one, especially if you are working alone without much money. At the same time,
an amature-produced test film does not make the best impression, and is unnecessary. If the studio is interested in a pick up, they will make a deal with you to produce a pilot with an option for series pick up. That is the usual procedure.

Currently working on my character sketches and notes as we speak. One has the old-school Merrie Melodies style of the 1930s-1940s, another with something of a Film Noir bent, and another so stylized and cutting edge and new that it's bound to win an award or six! Thanx to you guys for the suggestions!
