Being an MTM/Rhoda fan, I've been looking for a copy of this for years. The only other bit of info about it besides what's in the Wiki article I can offer is that it was produced by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson.

I actually saw this when originally broadcast, but about all I can remember is that the plot involved Carlton having to walk a rich woman's dog, only to have it die on him. Also, Carlton vaguely resembled Zonker from Doonesbury.

You can see screenshots from this special at Toonarific.

That's definately from Charles Swenson. His cartoons have the "scribbly" animation effect, seen in his older works from "Puff the Magic Dragon" to his more recent "Mike, Lu and Og."

Looks like such an interesting special, and only a shame a TV sereis didn't materialize over it (would've been interesting if it was aimed at a prime-time slot as well at a time when seeing anything animated during prime-time was limited to these specials).

I am suprised some of you have heard of it-lol Seems like it is one of those obscure things that many people don't know about. Pilots like Carlton are so interesting. I was reading about one with George Lyndsey from Andy Griffith who made a pilot playing Goober, except he was out of Mayberry and he ran a truck stop. The Goober one was live action, but thought I would mention it anyway.

Like Bobby Bickert, I saw "Carlton Your Doorman" on its original broadcast in 1980... It followed the debut of "Bugs Bunny's Bustin' Out All Over" (which was all-new Chuck Jones animation), soooo of course I ended up seeing "Carlton...";). And although the people over on Imdb rate it fairly highly, I don't remember "Carlton..." being particularly funny (or artistic), but then neither did I find "The Lorenzo And Henrietta Music Show" to be a laugh riot (and that was the last time anybody got to see Lorenzo's face!:p).

I'd LIKE to say that I have ""Carlton Your Doorman" on tape (since I taped the Bugs special that night) BUT with videotape in 1980 still costing about $22 EACH I was not prone to (ahem) "waste" it on anything that was not part of my research. Sooooo before anybody asks me, nooooo I probably don't have it for the aforementioned reason.
