I was watching "Hare Conditioned" on th Golden Collection last night and I noticed that when the Gildersleeve guy says he'll "finish" Bugs, and Bugs replies "on the contrary, I'll finish you!" the mouth movements don't match the dialogue? Is this unique to the Golden Collection or the same everywhere? Anyone know if the lines were originally supposed to be different?

Actually, I remember watching that years ago on an old Looney Tunes video and the exact same thing happened to me. I guess it was a sound error that they (from Termite Terrace) didn't realise 'till too late.

There were several cartoons with that sound glitch. In Duck Amuck, for example, when Daffy's doppleganger in the next frame mumbles "down here", his lip-movements don't at all match his words (in fact, I often wonder whether that whole line of dialogue was a mistake since it doesn't really make any sense).

I think it might also have something to do with the fact that the scene was animated by Bobe Cannon, whose work tended to be a lot more rushed and sloppy-looking compared to the rest of the Jones unit at the time. His lip-sync didn't always match the soundtrack perfectly.

But a redubbed line seems entirely plausible. Note that the Great Gildersleeve suddenly becomes voiced by Mel Blanc for that one line - I'm not sure who did Gildersleeve's voice throughout the rest of the cartoon (Kent Rogers, maybe?), but perhaps they couldn't get him back in to redo the line or something.

I took it that they dubbed in that line after the fact, to make the situation clearer. I don't know what the original line would have been, but having Blanc dub in "Now I'll finish you off!" was probably just intended to make it clear that the Gildersleeve character is planning to kill Bugs or something.

Another example of this is in "Easter Yeggs" when Bugs says to the mean little kid "Someone'll get hurt! Probably me!" There's hardly any mouth movement at all here, and it's pretty clear that Blanc dubbed in the line but they didn't have time/money to re-animate.

I think it's clear there are no Turner "Dubbed Versions" in any of the LTGCs. If there were any dubbing errors, I could only presume that they were in the original cartoon.

I have, though, come across one or two instances of the LTGC's restored/cleaned up soundtrack having fixed an error that was present in the original version.

For instance, "Hillbilly Hare". Originally, after the verse "duck your head and lift your tail", Mel took a quick and noticable draw of breath in order to read the next verse. But the track had been edited so that the next verse came a couple of seconds later, leaving that quick inhalation to remain there dangling. It's gone now.
