If Droopy's Good Deed is still edited, if yoy buy upcoming Tex Avery's Droopy set? Avery's Droopy set will be releasing may 15, so I guess many classic cartoon fans already pre-order it.
I definitely buy this set. I had Compleat Tex Avery LD box set and asian released Tom and Jerry ten disc box set (it contains ten Droopy cartoons) But, I'll buy this set anyway, because of all of Michael Lah's and Dick Lundy's Caballero Droopy are included this set. And, most important of all, Avery's Droopy set must sell well, then we have finally Tex Avery box set in the near future!
I want to know how many fellow members will buy Droopy set, please let me know. thanks

I won't.....lol
I plan on buying a lot of DVDs this year. In addition to the Popeye and Woody Woodpecker cartoons, I'm buying:
James Cagney Collection - Volume 1
Erroll Flynn Collection - Volume 2
Lucille Ball Collection
Esther Williams Collection
Film Noir Collection - Volume 4
Tough Guys Collection - Volume 1
Powell & Loy Collection
Warner already had my cojones in a vice grip, so I refuse to pay $$$ for uncut toons....lol

I personally don't think this is a very good message to send to the studio and I don't really see how this thread could benefit anyone.
NO films should EVER be edited, under any circumstance.
Why give a studio with a history and track record of controversial decisions, the benefit of their interest, by starting a thread like this?
I'm sure people will weigh in the good and bad once the set is released, and purchase as they see fit. I don't think we should start advertising and promoting, on the Golden Age Cartoon Forum of all places, leniency and acceptance of tampering with our classic film libraries.
The studios have held ascendance over these films for far too long and the persuasive control of revisionist administrative figures are finally loosening as the studios are slowly beginning to acknowledge the demand and fiscal *necessity of adhering to the growing and strong public requests of preserving films as they were originally conceived.
Most people seem to be excited about this release, myself included, let's just all hope that this isn't an issue... because it shouldn't have to be.

I'll still buy it. It would be a shame if they edited ANYTHING, but it sounds like the set is too good to pass up on the whole.

I'm holding out for a comprehensive Tex Avery set.
There's lots of incentive to get this one... if only for Caballero Droopy and the Lah shorts – they're great toons, and just won't be available otherwise... MGM toons need a little extra support, imo (we do want a Barney Bear set, yah?)
Despite the unfortunate oversights with the Tom & Jerry sets, Warner – and Disney – have been very good about releasing previously controversial material... I see no evidence they will change that policy, especially with the passionate and informed consultants birddogging these packages.
Even if they do drop the ball with DGD, there will be an opportunity to squawk and have it corrected in the (inevitable?) Tex Avery set.
I gotta get this one.

I'm waiting for a complete Tex MGM set - the Droopys are the least interesting of his MGM toons, especially when watched together without other toons in the mix.

I'll buy it expecially to have the Lundy and Lah cartoons THAT WILL NOT BE ON A POSSIBLE FUTURE TEX AVERY SET.

Yes, I'll buy it regardless. If only as if everyone waits for the Avery box, there won't be one due to no one buying this. :)
I am hoping for unedited, with a nice 'Cartoons of the times' text intro before it, but who knows?

I'll take a wait-and-see approach to this. If this is the only cartoon that's cut, I'll most likely buy it. If others are hacked up, then my answer is a definite no.

No.
Don't you care about the Lundy and Lah shorts?;)
I'll buy this set only to have better copies of "Sheep Wrecked", "Blackboard Jumble" and "Grin and Share It": I've always liked these three ones.
I'm pretty sure that "Droopy's Good Deed" and "Daredevil Droopy" will be cut but there are no other sequences that could be cut in other cartoons so the set is a terrific deal anyway.

I prefer uncensored cartoons on my DVDs, but beggars can't be choosers sometimes. I held off from buying the Tom & Jerry sets for a long time because of censorship issues, but finally gave in because I really wanted nice copies of those cartoons for reference.
I have the Tex Avery laserdisc set, but laserdiscs don't look too good on HDTVs. I'd like to have nice pristine prints on DVD, instead.
I'll take a wait and see approach, though, to the Droopy set.

Don't you care about the Lundy and Lah shorts?;) It's been so long since I've seen these that I'm not sure. :( Since I'm on the fence on this set, edited cartoons would be the tipping point and I wouldn't buy it. I probably will end up getting it if the cartoons are in fact unedited, but I'm going to wait until the reviews are in and I know one way or the other before buying.

It's been so long since I've seen these that I'm not sure. :(
Well, they are all good cartoons but "Sheep Wrecked" is my favorite one.
These shorts features Daws Butler and Bill Thompson at their best.
The first one provides the voice of the Southern Wolf (a voice he also used with few differences for Chilly Willy's Smedley, Woody Woodpecker's Gabby Gator, Huckleberry Hound and one shot characters like Chilly Willy's human nemesis in "Polar Pests") while the second not only is the official voice of Droopy but in this period is the Irish Spike (renamed Butch to avoid confusion with "another" Spike. By that time, in fact, Hanna and Barbera had tramuted Tom and Jerry's Spike the bulldog into a sort of studio star, giving him even a short live own series paired with son Tyke)too.
The shorts will be here presented in Cinemascope as when they were released and not in full screen.
The only AAN is also a Lah cartoon, "One Droopy Knight".It reuses gags and partial plot from "Senor Droopy" (how the Avery effort did not obtain a nomination is beyond me, being marvellously animated and one of the best cartoons ever made).
Is all of this enough to buy the set?;) (If it does not sell good, no Avery set...sigh!:( )
Mr. Jinks

What's AAN???
Also, I hope these toons are not DVNR-ed cause Wags to Riches looked awful on the DVD for the Astaire/Rogers film The Barkleys of Broadway.

I already pre-ordered the thing.
I'm interested in the non-Avery Droopys and it's only one set unlike the Tom & Jerry ones.

Sure, I will still buy it if it's edited. I'm pretty sure WHV has (hopefully) learned their lesson with the Tom & Jerry sets and while I doubt this set will be up to the LTGC standards, it'll still be worth having Tex Avery cartoons on DVD (and the other Droopy cartoons, too). :droopy:

I really don't like Warners trying to blackmail the consumers with a 'buy this partial set or you won't get a chance to buy a complete set' (which, by the way, will include most of this set so they get you to buy the same thing twice). Even if I really wanted the Droopys I wouldn't buy this set, because I couldn't justify potentially spending money on the same thing twice. I'm still annoyed that I've had to replace my LPs with CDs and videotapes with DVDs, don't get me started on 'remasters' etc. of the same product.

Are you insane? How can you not want to buy the same thing four times?
If "Droopy's Good Deed" or any other cartoon is edited, I won't bother throwing away any money on it. It's cheap enough just to buy it for the Lah Droopy's, and if they're all restored and uncut, I'll definitely pick it up, even though I've never been terribly fond of Droopy (it's the gags, reactions and direction that make these cartoons funny). I don't care for the blackmail aspect either, but these are two very different sets after all. This is just here to whet our appetites until the coming thing appears.

:)
I much prefer the Woody Woodpecker scenario - a comprehensive (and affordable) Volume 1, a promise of more to come if we purchase this Volume 1, and if there is a Volume 2 it will not duplicate any of Volume 1. That is what really whets my appetite.

I love Droopy, it's one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time. So, I think Droopy's own dvd set is fine idea to me. And, of course Michael Lah's Droopy cartoons with Lundy's Cabarello Droopy are icing on the cake. They are much weaker cartoons than Avery's Droopy's, but some of them are actually good cartoons. So, I think Droopy set is pretty good collection for any classic cartoon fans.

You can count on me to buy Droopy on DVD. I want Tex Avery's cartoons on DVD. ALL of them. If this is what it takes to get them all out there then darn it, I'm going to do it!

An all-Droopy set is a good idea independently of an all-Avery set—because this is the obvious way to put out the non-Avery Droopy shorts, which otherwise wouldn't have a package to belong to.
You know what? That would make me mad!

Although I can't speak for everyone, but I will not purchase this set, if there is any kind of edits on this collection and one would think that WHV would be pretty wise not to screw this set up, just like they did with both T&J collections.
Let's face it gang, WHV has done a "terrible" job in handling the MGM cartoons onto dvd and I think there would be a backlash among fans.If there is edits and fans don't but this set because of that and if the sales are poor, then we might not see an Avery set and you can blame WHV video for not doing the right thing with the Droopy collection.

I'm not a big Droopy guy, so I'll likely not buy it anyway. I'm looking forward to the Lantz DVD, though. And I'm still hoping I'll see the Quick Draw DVD.

Good news on the Droopy set. I think that WB has found that the current way of dealing with such cartoons, as seen on various box sets like Busby Berkeley, etc., is the best. Put up a small 10-second text scroll noting that the cartoon has racial content but that we don't want to 'cover it up' and that parents should be aware they may need to talk to their children.
So far I've seen that text box on a few DVD sets with cartoons, as well as Golden Collection 4, and there seems to have been very little controversy. Now admittedly, you may need something stronger when you get to the likes of Buddy's Circus, but for now, I think this is the sensible way to go.
(It's also possible that WB realizes, Family Entertainment Division or no, that
we are the primary buyers of this DVD, and that kids who wouldn't know about the racial gags in Droopy's Good Deed are far more likely to be buying Aqua Teen Hunger Force and know Droopy only throuigh his Harvey Birdman appearance, and skip this DVD anyway.):droopy:
