Also Plane Dippy has been redrawn, and also there is a 1968 16mm print of "Hollywood Capers" floating around somewhere with redrawn guild sunset titles.

Interesting, could there have been more than 78 of these done?

Jon, where have you seen redrawn versions of PORKY'S POOR FISH and PILGRIM PORKY? These were part of the Nick package in black and white at the start, suggesting that they were never in the Korean redrawn group. An old, very dated WB document I've got seems to back this up.
As noted, PLANE DIPPY was also redrawn as part of the official package. Subtract the two above and add this, and you've got 77. We must be missing one, but which? Not WHAT PRICE PORKY, as once again Nick ran it in BW and my WB doc doesn't suggest a redrawn having been made, so I guess it never was completed.
HOLLYWOOD CAPERS was also redrawn, but as part of a PD package Fred Ladd also handled. Same goes for UPS 'N' DOWNS and BOSKO'S WOODLAND DAZE. None of these "count," as WB didn't commission these colorizations.

Hey David, I was going by an OLD list I had saved on the computer from waaay back when I first started my LT&MM page. I was a bit unsure about "Poor Fish" and "Pilgrim" too. Was "Porky's Pastry Pirates" ever colorized?

Once we figure out the other mystery redrawn, I'll update the listing in my post.

I know Porky's Pastry Pirates was computer colorized (Nick aired the computer colorized version fairly frequently back in the mid-90s). Not quite sure if it was redrawn though.

Gosh, if it was, they probably would've given the bumble bee purple and yellow stripes or something.

You are very funny Marty26, but no, Porky's Pastry Pirates wasn't redrawn either...

Hey Jon— the missing one is PORKY'S MOVING DAY, which I've only ever seen once in its redrawn form.

Porky's Moving Day?? Oh, I have that on videotape from broadcast TV (long ago). It used to be broadcast here quite regularly.

What is the fascination with redrawn and computer colored cartoons? They are inferior to the original versions. I choose to ignore them, myself.

The redrawns are inferior as far as animation goes, ditto for the careless way they were shot. The individual redrawn cels are generally as close as most of us will ever get to owning an original 1936-41 Porky/Daffy. You have to understand that for THIRTY YEARS they were the only way of seeing the classic vintage Schlesinger Looney Tunes.

The computer colorized toons though ARE the black and whites, just run through computer coloring via an artist picking choices from the color equivalents of the grey tones and then applying them.

And like I've said before, the much-vaunted black and white originals were ONLY made in black and white because of sheer, unadulterated cheapness!!! NONE of the directors involved ever wanted to be stuck working in black and white...:)

I would agree so well for having to grow up when that was apparent. Yes, it was not perfect at all, but that was the s__t we had to take for the time being given the attitude that existed then.

We have to keep that in mind (unless you're not some film geek whom favors the qualities inherited in black & white filming verses color).

In a similar way, I have an odd fetish for watching terrible anime copycats that Korea produced in the 80's that often lifted from Japanese anime designs/storylines, but often resulted in producing cheap movies that are inferior in every way (especially when a few films leaked out in the form of English dubs like the ones Wal-Mart sold last year). I often want to say they were at least 'learning' the craft then (given how far better they've gotten with it now).

I remember reading (possibly in Steve Schneider's book) that there are 78 Looney Tunes redrawn. I counted them on a list I had, and noticed that I only counted 77, making me wonder what the other one is. Then, one day in October 1990, I found out that the other one is "Porky's Moving Day," after seeing this version appear on Nickelodeon. In April 1992, Nickelodeon began to gradually replace redrawns with then-brand-new computer-colorized versions, including one for "Porky's Moving Day." In October of that same year, Nickelodeon began to show the Warner Brothers cartoons with their openings and closings.

I think I might know why the local stations in my area never showed this cartoon. Perhaps they thought that the "okay, boss" character was a black stereotype.

During the 1930s and 40s only the prestige pictures were shot in color. Most films were done in black and white. I don't think that Casablanca was shot in black and white because the Warner Bros. wanted to save a few bucks. If you compare the output of cartoons to features, I think you'll find that color cartoons far out number the color features.

Is it possible for anyone to upload a few redrawns such as Porky's Duck Hunt, Porky & Gabby, and Porky's Five & Ten to remind us how bad they are?

Wish I bothered to. I used to pull my hair out at ones where the ending wasn't there due to the redrawns not having them animated at all!

Some of the redrawns were animated off Guild/Sunset Flim prints that had their WB openings and endings clipped before they got to Korea (they just recolored the TV print titles), while some others actually did have the end titles redrawn. "The Sour Puss" and "Daffy's Southern Exposure" had redrawn Porky/drum end titles (which were finally shown when they were re-released to syndication on videotape by Warners in the early 1980s), while "The Village Smithy" infamously had the 'fill in the outline' animation of the "That's all, folks!" end title (the out-of-focus WB shield opening and mismatched LT title page were also worth a smirk or two on this one).

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon use the Deduce You Say Logo W-B Shield and That's all Folks card for The Sour Puss back in the 90's? However I do believe you that there is a redrawn for The Sour Puss that exists with the original W-B shield and That's all Folk's card.

I once owned a 16mm print of redrawn Sour Puss, with "original titles"

Here's a screenshot I took when I sold it on ebay.

When Warners re-released the redrawns for syndication on videotape in the early 1980s, most of the cartoons had the opening and closing cards from "Deduce, You Say" attached. "The Sour Puss" and "Daffy's Southern Exposure" did not. But the first re-releases also included the fade to the 1973 Warner Communications logo. After 1985, when Warners dropped that logo for its movie division and went back to the classic WB shield, a new package was sent out to any stations getting the cartoons, and later Nick, that had the redone opening and closing -- minus the \\- end logo on those cartoons (WGN in Chicago swapped out their old film versions of those cartoons for tape around 1984 and ran both with their original titles, though the ending for "Daffy's Southern Exposure" had the audio out of synch, which considering the color selection choices for that short, was the least of its problems. KTVT in Dallas-Fort Worth got the same package around 1986, and neither had their original openings and closings).

I think its the Koreans fault that its out of sync, absoult can you please repost The Village Smithy, Daffy's Southren Exposure, as well as your current copy of the redrawn "The Sour Puss"?

I never saved the digital files when I captured these before, so I have to re-capture them to post them again. If I can get some spare time soon, I will.
(most of these will be on my WKBD DVDS as well - if they ever get completed)
