In DiC's "The New Adventures of Beany and Cecil", one of the animation timers listed is Micheal Lah (yes, that's how it is spelled there). Is this the same person as Michael Lah who worked at MGM?

If it is, then it's one of the last things he did, as Mr. Lah died in 1995. But I could see why John K. would hire Mike Lah for one of his projects. That show was, what, 1991 or so?

Actually, it was 1988.

Hey, I like John's short-lived version of the show. While it not as good as the orignal, at least it tries too and it 100 times better than Ren & Stimpy Adult Cartoon Party.

Actually, Nick, so do I...I just couldn't resist the joke. I taped all the John K Beanies...the only real drawback to the show was using a real kid for Beany's lame voice.
Well, the REAL drawback was blowing the opportunity to have B&C back on TV by missing deadlines and inserting vulgarity (which I believe is what did it in).
In those pre-T&A/"adult"/"weekend pussy hunt"/"G.D." George Liquor days of John K's career I was a rabid fan of his endeavors...he managed to employ Clampett's style/traditions and imbue them with his own hip (tho' still tasteful) "take" on it. I loved it. I loved Ren & Stimpy (originally), too. Then it all went overboard, and I went elsewhere in search of current cartoon entertainment.
There are some John K Beanies up on YouTube---those unfamiliar with it should check 'em out. I watched the first one I found (GOLDEN MENUE part 1),and it was great. Beany's voice stunk, though...
The new Beany & Cecil was cancelled because of the usual missed deadlines, but also because they would have storyboards approved and then completely redo them.

Yeah, in John's case, he'd rather do it the way Clampett would've done it back in his time, doing it all on storyboards as opposed to submitting finished scripts that became the norm of TV animation by the late 80's. Shame though it didn't work out for him there (rather surprised DIC even produce the series despite the level of crappiness they'd fallen into the gutter with in later years such as with "Hammerman" and other insipid works I fail to remember now).

Have any of you guys heard of the condom episode? True or false?

I pretty much agree with Jim here...though I missed his take on B&C, and I have yet to see the "Adult" version of "Ren & Stimpy." The "gross humor" kind of stuff was very funny to me when I was, say, around 12 or so. But not since then. I always am saddened when I see someone with more wit and talent than that, choosing to play the "blue card" to get a cheap, easy laugh rather than doing something really clever.
Just my two cents...

John may have wanted to do the show on boards, but because it was 1988 and an ABC show, there were writers. The first story editor was Chuck Lorre, who was either fired or quit. Don't feel bad for him, he went on to create several very successful sitcoms, including the current Two and a Half Men, where he made more money than he ever could have made doing animation.
The second story editor was Paul Dini, who's made about as much money as is possible writing animation. I had worked for Paul on Ewoks and was scheduled to write on Beany and Cecil, but then the plug got pulled.

I'll have to ask some of the guys who worked on it the next time I hear from them. Since they did the gay Gandy Goose/Sourpuss thing right before B&C, it sounds more than likely.

Hmmm, Kricfalusi portrayed Gandy Goose & Sourpuss, Ranger Smith, Yogi & Boo Boo and, or course, Ren & Stimpy as gay. Do you ever get the feeling that John K is really trying to tell us something? Only his voice is muffled from behind that closet door...
