This was a cute story. I wonder why Mel always seemed to make Woody do that weird "He he he HAAAAH HO!" laugh on those Capital Records. :p

Fascinatin', isn't it?

I have no proof, but I suspect a single answer lies behind Woody's weird, different laugh and the fact that the records lack the Woody Woodpecker Song. Maybe the Universal Music Company had to be paid an additional royalty each time the song was used in a product, and Capitol wanted to avoid paying that royalty for a record that could tell its story just as well without the song.
Except— that this also would have ruled out the use of "ha-ha-ha-HA-ha" as Woody's laugh, seeing as in so many syllables that's actually a line of the Woodpecker Song's lyrics. Thus the substitute "hee-hee-hee-HA-ho".

Just speculation, of course.
