I saw "This Old Grey Hare" the other day and at the end Elmer is handed a stick of TNT. Immediately it goes to the end screen, but there is still sound, you hear a fuse burning and then the an explosion? Is that supposed to be, or is it yet ANOTHER edit made by WB? :befuddled :bugs2:

nothing of the kind;
that's how it originally ended..and it's a great gag too!

Of course, if the "That's All, Folks!" screen didn't shake along with the explosion, then the cartoon was edited - the dubbed version of that cartoon keeps a still screen, therefore killing the gag.

There's also another Dubbed Version of this that fixes the problem, featuring the original shaking end card (where 'That's all folks!' doesn't write itself on screen) and the 'Dubbed Version' text fading in after the explosion sound.

How can a "shaky" title card be controversial? I don't believe this . . .

It isn't.
Turner Broadcasting took the lazy route when restoring its cartoon library and reused the same opening and closing sequences for countless cartoons instead of restoring them all individually.
Even when they were special, like The Old Grey Hare.

I have an AVI file of the ending from Boomerang UK's print, the newer Dubbed Version (with the text fading in after the explosion). It seems to fade out to black almost as soon as the text fades in though, with a longish period of black until the music finishes! What do you think?
I know the ending card appears with a border round it (windowboxed). This is something that Boomerang and other TV networks tend to do to the old cartoons. Due to overscan, if titles and endings were shown full-screen, some of the text at the edges would be chopped off by the TV! Windowboxing like this makes sure all the text is readable, but also makes it look less authentic :(
