Just on a whim, I bought Looney Tunes volume 4 and while I enjoy WB cartoons, I tend to prefer other studio's stuff.

But I was very suprised at the quality of this collection!!! Excellent material throughtout. So now I want more...

So, will there be a volume 5? If so, what cartoons would you most want to see in the collection?

Don't know if it's on any of the collections yet, but I always enjoyed the Bugs cartoons with the 'Mugsy' and 'Edward G Robinson' characters. Sorry, don't remember the title(s)!

I'd like some strange selection, like an Elmer Fudd disc or a "Goofy Gophers and friends" disc:p , but, as we know, goo ol' Jerry already planned everything!;)

I wonder who will do the commentaries in the next set? As usual, I would like to hear more from Jerry Beck and Daniel Goldmark.....our David Gerstein would be a nice inclusion too!;)

There most definitely is going to be a volume 5. And at least a volume 6 and volume 7 as well...

THe cartoon you refer to is Friz Freleng's "Racketeer Rabbit" [1946]. It has not appeared on a GC set thus far so it very easily could end up on the next set.

As for what shorts I'd like to see... I think it's darn time that our favorite "little black duck" got his own disc (certainly he deserves it more so than Speedy Gonzales). Here is what I would like to see on an all-Daffy disc...

"Scalp Trouble" [Clampett/1939]
"Muscle Tussle" [McKimson/1953]
"His Bitter Half" [Freleng/1950]
"Daffy Dilly" [Jones/1948]
"The Wise Quacking Duck" [Clampett/1943]
"Wise Quacks" [Clampett/1939]
"The Daffy Duckaroo" [McCabe/1942] (That's right... I'm asking for a McCabe cartoon!!!!)
"The Prize Pest" [McKimson/1951]
"Ducking the Devil" [McKimson/1957]
"Holiday for Drumsticks" [Davis/1949]
"What Makes Daffy Duck" [Davis/1948]
"Nasty Quacks" [Tashlin/1945]
"Fool Coverage" [McKimson/1952]

I also wouldn't mind seeing another Road Runner short on the next collection... hopefully either "Hopalong Casualty" [1960] or "Zoom at the Top" [1962].

Also, in accordance with the "All Cats" disc on Vol. 4, I wouldn't mind seeing an "All Dogs" disc on Vol. 5. If that is in the works, here's what I'd like to see on that...

"Bartholomew Versus The Wheel" [McKimson/1964]
"Bone Sweet Bone" [Davis/1948]
"Doggone Cats" [Davis/1947]
"Behind the Meat Ball" [Tashlin/1945]
"Weasel Stop" [McKimson/1956]
"Dog Gone People" [McKimson/1960]
"A Mutt in a Rut" [McKimson/1959]
"Feline Frame-Up" [Jones/1954]
"Dog Collared" [McKimson/1950]
"Ding Dog Daddy" [Freleng/1942]
"Hollywood Canine Canteen" [McKimson/1946]
"Two Gophers From Texas" [Davis/1948]
"A Ham in a Role" [McKimson/1949]

And, lastly, seeing as how there will almost certainly be another "all Bugs Bunny" disc, here are some of the wabbit's shorts I'ld love to see...

"Hare Trigger" [Freleng/1945]
"Rabbit Rampage" [Jones/1955]
"Bugs' Bonnets" [Jones/1956]
"Oily Hare" [McKimson/1952]
"The Unruly Hare" [Tashlin/1945]
"A Wild Hare" [Avery/1940]
"The Hasty Hare" [Jones/1952]
"A Witch's Tangled Hare" [Levitow/1959]
"Hare-Breadth Hurry" [Jones/1963]
"Horse Hare" [Freleng/1960]
"Hare-Less Wolf" [Freleng/1958]
"A Feather in His Hare" [Jones/1948]
"The Unmentionables" [Freleng/1963]

We won't know any details about LTGC 5 until July or August, and it won't be available until October or November, so we have plenty of time to speculate and build our hopes up about what SHOULD be on the set etc. ;)

At least it's the one decent McCabe cartoon - now some of your other choices are more questionable - Abe Levitow??

Well, it was his only Bugs Bunny cartoon (tho he CO-directed "Baton Bunny" with Chuck Jones) and it is a fairly decent cartoon (although it undoubtedly would have been better if Jones himself has directed it). The finale with Hazel meeting "Sam Krubish" and debating about whether Apartment "2-B" is where Krubish was told to go to meet her folks has me in stitches every time. It certainly is a MUCH better Witch Hazel cartoon than Robert McKimson's pathetic attempt at directing the character in the abysmal "A-Haunting We Will Go" which inexplicably made it onto the Speedy Gonzales disc on Vol. 3. Am I the only person in the world who actually thinks that cartoon is horrible?

Am I the only person in the world who actually thinks that cartoon is horrible? In this case, horrible is relative. Compared to pre-64 WB cartoons yes, it's horrible. Compared to other Daffy-Speedy matchups, it's not so bad.

Even there, I don't know if I'd agree. At least other Daffy-Speedy matchups had original scenes and gags (that weren't heavily stolen from classic Chuck Jones cartoons! ). They may not have been funny but at least they were original. "A-Haunting We Will Go" always struck me as having a very forced plotline with a very weak story throughout and, again, the heavy re-use of animation from both "Broom-Stick Bunny" and "Duck Amuck" is very off-putting for me.

I'd rather see a funny recycled gag. To each his own.

Jerry Beck told me this

Up to Volume 8 has already been planned out with specific themes and cartoons.

Warner Brothers has confirmed they will go to Volume 10 and are still open to the idea of issuing a complete collection which according to Jerry will encompass 17 volumes.

There is nothing worse for me than a cheap cheater. I loathe all these "Haunting we will go", "Wild chase", "Mucho locos" type craptoons.

As I said earlier, the D/S pairing would have been rated a lot higher, if not 25 episodes were made for them, and Daffy at least keep some of his charm.
Shorts like "Daffy rents" or "Feather finger" really worth watching.

Well that's good news. Let's hope they get all 17 volumes out.

Great ... but, does that mean that you could only get vols. 11 thru 17 if you bought a multi-hundred dollar complete collection, or are you saying that they are open to going beyond vol. 10 with the annual releases up to 17? Sorry if this is a stupid question ... I'm just trying to get my hopes up!

I already made my speculations for Vol. 5 waaaaaaay back in this thread (http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/showthread.php?t=8305).

It's going to take 17 whole volumes to get all the Looney Tunes released, eh? Let's hope the DVD is still around by then.

I doubt it will take 17 volumes to get all the cartoons out.. I say this because, sooner or later there wont be as many bonus material to put onto these dvds and the number of shorts on these collections will far exceed 60...

why not? there are over 1,000 of them, are there not? 17*60=1,020

But Jerry Beck has stated that the LTGCs are budgeted by Warners to only restore about 60 toons every year, so they really cannot include more, even if they run out of bonus material.

First, I don't know if they'll run out of bonus material, maybe I'm wrong ... but there's just so much great stuff to talk about and focus on with the Warner cartoons. But, even if they did run out of "Bonus Materials," then maybe they would just increase the number of commentaries and music-only tracks to compensate.

I don't think they will run out of bonus material either (there is an endless variety of mini documentaries they could make), I was responding to LTS who pondered that if they run out of bonus material they would have room for more cartoons.
