In an effort to repay your kindness, allow me to present (courtesy of Mark Kausler) a "party favor" that I don't think many of you have seen; I know I didn't see it before just a few weeks ago.

Various researchers have noted MGM's eternal problem with Flip the Frog: that they thought he was too ugly and not humanlike enough. John Kenworthy is the first I'm aware of to have recorded the final step in the conflict: that Iwerks finally offered to redesign Flip as an actual human, but the series was dropped and the plan didn't take effect.
Here's an unprecedented look at the model sheet for Flip the Human (no kidding!)...

...and hey, with a change of leg color and addition of freckles, that's the original "skinny" model for Willie Whopper! It's a metamorphosis worthy of Kafka himself—one Iwerks star actually became his replacement. if I hadn't seen it, I'd never have believed it.

I think that even as a human, Matthew, Flip will always have more personality than Buddy ever did. But I grew up with Flip on early VHS tapes, so maybe I'm biased. I think I may just prefer a likeable loser like our favorite frog to a comparatively less interesting winner like Buddy... (-:
