Here's an interesting cartoon from late 1980s called "Technological Threat," which blended traditional animation with CGI

Technological Threat is a sort of Tex Avery tribute cartoon. I believe director is a big fan of Avery's cartoons. Many of Avery's trademark gags all appeared in Technological Threat. Some critics called this short as - Tex Avery meets computer animation - I agree that critic's opinion, this is fun tribute cartoon. Technological Threat nominated Academy Awards short animation subject.
Old International Tournee of Animation LD/vhs and World's Greatest Animation LD/vhs/dvd include Technological Threat. Especially, World's Greatest Animation is a great collection. It contains shorts like The Big Snit, The Cat Came Back, Every Child, Special Delivery, Anna and Bella and of course Technological Threat. All Academy Awards winner or nominated shorts.

Great timing, poses, design, use of pantomime. Superb cartoon. I've been meaning to get one of those collections for years for this short alone.

Too bad it lost to Pixar's "Tin Toy". The film's relevancy still exists today given the way things are headed.
Aside from Bill Kroyer's direction and CGI animation (essentially it's vector-based graphics that are transferred to cels before it's painted, Kroyer would go on to produce "Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest"), other familiar names involved in the production include Rich Moore (The Simpsons), Chris Bailey (Clerks: The Animated Series, Kim Possible), Gregg Vanzo (founder of Rough Draft Studios), Rob Minkoff (The Lion King, Stewart Little).

It would be best for those to track down the LD of World's Greatest Animation, if only for the extras material such as seperate audio commentaries by the late Williams Moritz and Charles Solomon. The later DVD released by Image is standard and barebones.
This short also showed up on "Computer Animation Festival Vol. 2.0", an LD/VHS release, though it removes the end credit sequence (featuring the gag titles/names) but offers a nice stereo soundtrack non-present in Expanded Entertainment's release.
I once found a 16mm copy of "Technological Threat" on eBay a few years back, but wished I had bid on that and won it. It would be worth dragging out my projector and run that on it!

Heck, the boss at the beginning was a dead-ringer for Avery's Spike...
