I found Tex Avery's Droopy: Compleat Theatrical Collection in Amazon dvd section. It's still four month away but already Amazon mention it. In product description, they wrote this Droopy collection is two disc set. If this is right information, I think two possibillities will be occur. One is some of Michael Lah's and Dick Lundy's Droopy shorts may including this set - because Avery's Droopy shorts less than twenty, I don't think less than twenty shorts made two disc set - Two is some kind of Avery tribute or documentary may including this set. Personally, I hope WHV made Avery's Droopy set is like this.

Tex Avery's Droopy : Compleat Theatrical Collection

disc one: all of Avery's Droopy shorts with commentary
disc two: some of Lah's, Lundy's Droopy shorts, Tex Avery tribute documentary

Anybody predict this Avery's Droopy set is gonna be a big seller? I hope:)

I don't think this set will have commentaries. Looks more like a "family product" to me.

the fact that it's called "complete theatrical collection" as opposed to "complete tex avery collection" suggests that it will contain the non-Avery shorts as well, and releasing this set first (and hopefully a Complete Tex Avery at MGM set later) they can get the non-avery Droopys out there without having to put them on an eventual Avery set.

Jerry Beck already mentioned that if they release an Avery set, it will repeat the Avery Droopys - but including the non-Avery Droopy would make no sense in that context.

They can have commentaries, they just have to keep them clean.
The Looney Tunes GCs don't have any bad language, and they're being sold in volumes over here too.

What I meant is that if the set is considered as a family product and not as a collector' set, we may not have commentaries (the value of commentaries is mostly appreciated by the die hard animation aficionados and not, IMHO, by the casual viewers).

As long as it sells enough to make Warner want to put out more cartoon DVDs, that's good enough for me.

I imagine Droopy's Good Deed will be cut.

Well, as long as it ends up uncut on a Tex Avery collection, then I'll be OK with it.
But I'm not optimistic about it being on this particular DVD.

What about Millionaire Droopy? Will WHV see fit to include that one (since Avery recieved screen credit on it, though it was made by Bill and Joe's team), or will they see it as redundant?

I don't think we disagree, just a misunderstanding

I would think that it would be included. They included the HB 'Scope remakes on the Avery LD collection.

Blah – same old boring art on the package...

But – this really is a great release to tide us over til an Avery box can be delivered.

If only for the Lundy and Lah Droopy's (good toons, btw!) – and the widescreen Millionaire – which otherwise might never have seen the light of day on DVD... this one's a must-have, even if the Avery Droopy titles are duplicated later.

Crossing fingers for an uncut Good Deed.

judging by the cover art, looks like some of the Wolf & Red cartoons are going to be included as well!:D
A pose from "Swing Shift Cinderella" and Red Riding Hood from "Red Hot Riding Hood" are present...:D

I don't think so - the box says 24 theatrical shorts - there were 24 Droopy shorts made by MGM (including the non-Averys), so likely this will include all the Droopys, nothing else. Red and the Wolf are there because they were in the Shooting of Dan McGoo and Wild and Woolfy (the Wolf is in a few more without Red). Red and the Wolf obviously are good for advertising and will fool people into thinking this is a more complete Avery set with Wolf & Red cartoons.

BTW - ugly cover, and a 2 disc set with only 24 cartoons sounds like a bad deal to me. I'll pass on this one.

That I agree with... 24 toons fit easily on one disc, huh?

Dunno how else to get the Lundy and Lah's, however.

Maybe they'll stealth-load all the Barney Bears on there as well.

Or Texas Tom.

But then the compression would go up, and video quality would not. The two-disc structure as it stands fits the Droopys fine.

Now you've got me curious...

What's the file size of a lossless 7-min cartoon?

Lossless? No compression at all? That's easy. The image size of a DVD-video is 720x480. With 24 bits of color and 30 frames per second, you get 720x480x24x30/8 = 31104000 bytes (about 30MB) per second. Multiply this by 420 seconds (7 minutes) and you get 12.5GB. Plus sound, of course.

A dual-layer DVD can hold 8.5GB of data, so you really need the compression :)

Also according to IGN.com, two of the special features include:
"Droopy and Friends: A Laugh Back documentary as well as a montage of Droopy gags called Doggone Gags."

What six-year-old kid wouldn't want to listen to Michael Barrier?
