View Full Version : What if GC2 ...

Maybe this is unpleasant to think about, but...

We all expect the Golden Collection 2 to be restored, uncut versions of the Cartoons. However, recent disappointments made me think...what if there was a screw-up on GC2?

What would hurt the most? I used the "Censored Cartoons" pages to come up with the cuts I felt would be the most distressing...

What would you hate the most ?

I would hate it if somebody at WB Home Video just grabbed the old Turner "Dubbed Version" prints and put them on the DVD. Can you imagine all the pre-1948 cartoons with that "Dubbed Version (c) 1995 Turner Entertainment..." at the end? :shame: :befuddled

Well, I guess edited cartoons would probably be the biggest disappointment. I've waited years to see some of the planned cartoons for GCII in their unedited form (and some like "Baby Buggy Bunny" I've never even SEEN unedited).

Personally, I hope GCII is everything what it was planned to be. I want these cartoons restored, unedited... in other words, the best darn DVD I can buy. I honestly hope the great care that reportedly went into this DVD is realized.

I don't think any of the post-1948 Blue Ribbon titles (ones which include credits)will EVER be restored.

But the rest of it will probably be so great that it will minimize that disappointment.

I know there is at least one perosn involved who cares about this. What's needed is someone who'll decide they want somewhat inferior quality on the titles in exchange for getting rid of a Blue Ribbon. I know what my decision would be, but I think I know theirs is the opposite.

... and among them, "The Old Grey Hare" complete with butchered ending?

No. No. Please, no. Let them do anything else. Let them even include "One More Time" as an e----- e--. But no Dubbed Versions. Mercy!

Wow, I was in the process of coming up with the poll, but I guess the forum software submits your post first and then lets you come up with the poll.

Anyway, please vote! :)

Well, I won't be too distressed if they don't restore the mama pig line omitted from "Baby Bottleneck", since that was cut on its original release, if I'm not mistaken. Also, I doubt they'd edit out the Jolson duck in "Porky in Wackyland", since they kept the exact same character in "Dough for the Do-Do" in volume 1. But any other edit would result in a VERY lengthy e-mail from me to Warner Home Video or whoever I should talk to about that sort of thing. And if ANY official Looney DVD featured dubbed versions, I don't care what cartoons were on it - I would never, ever buy it.

I think the biggest letdown for me would be if any of "Hollywood Steps Out" or "Have You Got Any Castles" was excised. I've never even seen either of them before, let alone uncut, and from what I hear, some pretty important stuff has been axed in previous prints.

the old grey hare is not in this wave,or am i wrong?

uhmm.. i think that the gandhi line will not be on this wave, probably this original version is no more available and i do not know if the mother pig' s line in baby bottleneck(don't touch that dial) was cut by clampett himself or was simply deleted in the blue ribbon reissue...

I voted for "Baby Buggy Bunny" since I don't think I've even seen that short and it seems like it's editing history is lengthy and convoluted.

I would take dubbed/time-compressed over edits any day...

the old grey hare is not in this wave,or am i wrong?I was just using that as an example of what could get sucked in (that is, the "new improved" version) if Dubbed Versions began to appear in any wave... :(

Read this thread (http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/showthread.php?t=52) and worry no more about "Castles." ;)

I know that a lot of these edits are no-brainers and already advertised as restored but...

Just like WB's advertisement of Tom & Jerry cartoons being uncut? Just like the Ren & Stimpy box set stating in big bold letters "UNCUT"?

I really don't think it's a good idea to mention scenes that could possibly be cut on the set. The censors are lurking on these boards keeping an eye out for info like that. I believe the same thing caused the version of CLOCK CLEANERS on the Mickey in Living Color DVD set to be edited just because we had mentioned what Donald could be mistaken for saying. So I really wouldn't be making a poll like this if I were you.

I gotta go with time compressions and "Dubbed Versions"

At least GC 1 didn't have Compressions.

I really would hate to see "Dubbed Versions" because I would like them restored. And it wouldn't make sense in the case of "Old Grey Hare".

I really don't think that a poll like this is a good thing and like Cartman said, you'd be surprised on who lurks on this board and sometimes doesn't help our cause(when people post things like this) to see the classics get treated with better respect.

Yes, I have to agree with Nelson and Cartman. A poll listing all the possible things that could be edited isn't a good idea. Like Nelson said, you would be surprised who reads this site. When I posted the original reply no poll had been posted, and I didn't see it until now. I have edited the poll and closed it.

Jon, I got all the scenes out of your "Censored Cartoons" web page.

Jeff

Well, regardless of the fact that this information is in other places on the web, I guess I don't want to make it easy for those lurking censors. Since several of the scenes are mentioned in various posts, can we just delete this thread?

Do you mean the "That's All Folks" ending that shakes being replaced with the "Dubbed Version" ending that doesn't shake??

Yep, that one exactly. Since the buildup to that closing gag winds up meaning nothing in the Dubbed Version, I'd say "butchered" is about the best word to describe the result. Would you agree?

(P.S. to all: No visuals of hanging sides of beef in reply this time, OK? Thanks.);)

(originally posted in the 'Is "this Old Grey Hare" edited?' thread)

There's also another Dubbed Version of this that fixes the problem, featuring the original shaking end card (where 'That's all folks!' doesn't write itself on screen) and the 'Dubbed Version' text fading in after the explosion sound.
