Here's something I'd like to try here:
Could we answer that age-old question, exactly, how many characters have appeared in Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies from the 1930's to the late 60's?
I say let's try to list one and every single character (not counting the main ones like :daffy: :bugs2: :bosko: :speedy: :sylvester ,etc.), and number them. I'll start:

Beaky Buzzard
Cecil Turtle
Slowpoke Rodriguez
Hippity Hopper
Owl Jolson
Willoughby
The Crackpot Quail
Petunia Pig
The Dodo
Adolf Hitler (well, in a sense)
Herman Goering
That's just off the top of my head. Let's see if we reach over 200.

I'm not sure where the dividing line between "Major" vs. "Minor" characters are. I think you should name every character (even the major ones) so that there is no ambiguity...

Anyway, here's some more "minor" ones:

20. Goopy Geer
21. Fluffy (Piggy's girlfriend)
22. Roxy (Foxy's girlfriend)
23. Inki
24. Mynah Bird
25. Sambo (from Angel Puss)
26. The Draft Horse
27. Uncle Tom (from "Hittin' the Trail..." and "Uncle Tom's Bungalow")
28. Wilbur
29. Bingo Crosbyana
30. Gabby Goat (Porky's sidekick)

Edit: I mistakenly had named the little cat/brat from the Bosko & Honey shorts as "Elmer" at #28, but have corrected his name to "Wilbur" now.

I say remove "Acme" as #201 and make the "Little man from the draftboard" #201.

Also Duck Dodgers needs to add the numer #204 to his post...everything else should be fine.

Of course a list like this should have been done in a Wiki forum, not a thread-based forum. ;)

Horton, Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Junyer Bear still appear twice

I am really sorry and embarresed about count screwloose. Hey, don't sweat it! Plenty of worse mistakes have been made here, and I should know, since I've made a whole bunch of those. ;)

Besides, now you can use Count Screwloose to start up a list of the more obscure MGM characters when we're done with this one.

The spider and gabby goat have been mentioned. But I think the ghosts and the dogs were not...resident guru Geezil can help us out here I think...
"Resident guru"? Not even close, friend, but the thought's greatly appreciated.

And I'll look back there for the ghost pups a bit later on today, unless somebody beats me to it.

OK, here we go: This may or may not account for all necessary removals (one of which was "Acme," as far as I'm concerned ... sorry) because my head's spinning with re-numbers by now, but I'm coming up with a current total of 283!
So keep 'em coming as long as we can keep digging 'em up, and whenever someone feels adventurous enough to triple-check my math, go for it!!

Sorry to say, but your #290, #295 and #299 above are repeats. :(

(Also, I'm starting to think that once we do reach an official #300, the mods would be very happy to close this thread and have another one launched...just in case anybody is dedicated enough to try for the next 300!)

Wow!

If I haven't already overstepped my bounds in getting so enthusiastic about following this project (and if I have done that, I now apologize), I hope no one'll mind if I go through this incredible list one more time for an updated count.

And then maybe we can toss another few hundred LT/MM players into the mix.

Hooray for everyone's energy levels this time out, and stay ... tooned!!
