During the sequence when Sam runs after Bugs and discovers he is standing over the lion pit, Bugs says "Now, now, brown cow!" Is this supposed to be a reference to something?:bugs2: :ysam:

The line may have originated with a children's record called "Puff and Toot." The title character is a talking locomotive who is taking a trainload of kids to summer camp. In mid-journey he encounters Moo Moo the cow.

Well, "How now brown cow" used to be a very familiar phrase (as evidenced by the very fact that a cartoon gag was built around a reference to it). Originally, it was devised as an elocution device, intended to help one practice the pronounciation of rounded vowel sounds. For those familiar with the film "Singin' in the Rain," think of Kathleen Freeman coaching Jean Hagen, "Remember Miss Lamont, rrrOund tones, rrrrOund tones!"
