Yes, you classic sitcom-slash-Top-40-radio fan, you ... TV Shows on DVD.com announced on New Year's Day that season 1 of WKRP in Cincinnati will finally, finally (no exaggeration there) see the light of day in early April. Here's the story! (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6770)
Just what we need, right? One more classic box set competing for all those disposable dollars in The Year of Popeye! But, hey... ;)

Well, we think the job is done on the music rights, but given how cheap some studios are and/or how greedy some rights-holders can be, I'll wait for the first reviews of the Season 1 discs to see how well Fox Home Video was able to clear all the music rights from the original WKRP episodes.

Well, one decent guess would be that at the very least, it'll be a vast improvement in that department over the gutted version that aired last on the E! cable channel.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here, but this (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6708) earlier article from that same site confirms that there was indeed music substitution. But Hugh Wilson, the series creator, has listened to some of the replacement music and given it his "thumbs up", and that's good enough for me. I'm more interested in the comedy aspect of that show anyway, so I'm really looking forward to this release despite the substitutions. I am a bit dismayed that it's being released on double-sided discs, but hopefully they'll reconsider that before the release date and use single-sided DVDs.

I'm not familiar with WKRP (But it has a GREAT Theme Song) But I just might pick this up.
As far as Musical Subsitutions go, if Fox doesn't go the "Replace-every-single-solitary-piece-of-music-with-crappy-elevator-music-that-doesn't-fit-the-scene" route, then i'm sure the DVD with fare reasonably well

Sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you, just didn't want you to be disappointed when it came out with replacement music.

Very good news. I think the Wonder Years has been delayed because of the same reasons so maybe it will soon be released too.

The possibility of that show being released was hinted at some months back. it's largely in the same boat in WKRP; if/when it DOES get released, music subsitutions will be compulsory.

Makes me think of all the MTV shows that have done the same deal and why hardly any of 'em get a decent home video release at all because of it. Still it was their fault for not thinking far ahead to realize the error in that logic.

Heck yeah that theme song rocks!!! I still remember it from when my Dad watched it. This would make a good gift for him. He liked the show and I liked that awesome music lol!
Who sang that song? Or was it just a generic song?
