Sitting watching everyone's New Years greeting here last night reminded me yet again of a question that always BURNS:p in my turtlizoid brain... WHY is there such a huge preponderance of those of us who live in North America yet are in the East of the U.S. or Canada???

I know that Jerry Beck, Ray Pointer and I think two others are in California, and only myself and two more in Az, then one or two in New Mexico, and a couple in Texas. Similarly there's a tiny smattering in the U.S.'s Midwest. In Canada I can think of two in Saskatchewan... Buuuuuut out of all the active members here, there does SEEM to be a much bigger percentage in the eastern half of both countries... [Yeah I know about the population density in NY & the eastern seaboard and Ontario and Quebec etc., but it still doesn't seem to make sense].
One of those things that puzzles me late at night:D:p

Well, we East Coasters just appreciate great art when we see it.
You poor folk in other areas of North America are in a culture deprived of good taste.:D ;)

But we love ya anyway!:p

I live on Vancouver Island, about 30 kilometers north of Victoria. Right now the area is living up to its reputation as Canada's wet coast.

I can't even think of the last time I left the East Coast, it must have been at least 12 years ago.

I don't know why there are so many of you Yankee Rabbits round here....
(just watched Southern-Fried Hare of course)

I'm from Texas, by the way.

To tell you the truth, for sometime I was quite surprised with how many people from Quebec are on this forum.

You could be looking too much into this, or there is a logical explanation for your little late night thought.

I've never traveled anywhere outside the Eastern Standard Time Zone. :)

The furthest west I've ever been is Ontario. I'm dead serious!!!:)

Actually, I've always wondered the same thing. Most of the people I know (even fellow Canadians) are from no western than Ontario, except for a few in Alberta and British Columbia.

It's because so many people love the winter weather here on the east coast of Canada (& the US)!
We can't bear to leave.

I've only traveled south, north, and to Puerto Rico...all pretty much "East" in the US!
I'm surprised as well that there are not more people here from CA, with the film industry and all largely concentrated in that area. Anywhoo, animation has its roots here ;) :D

But it took those from the East Coast and the Midwest to bring such "culture" to the "other coast." Let us not forget that the pioneers of our beloved animation "art" came from the east and midwest. Being from Michigan originally, I am particularly proud of the fact that two of the major pioneers, Winsor McCay and John R. Bray were Michigan natives. And last but not least, let's not forget that Walt Disney was another midwesterner who tossed in a few tokens toward the development of animation as an art form as well.:goof:

I used to live in Massachusetts before I moved out to Arizona in 2005.

Who cares about the East Coast? It's the West Coast that I'm most envious of. Have you seen the Disneyland videos at YouTube? Their face characters are funnier than their counterparts in Walt Disney World, FL! Mad Hatter & Alice are a natural comedy duo there! I'm talking major improv! You hear me, WDW Character Dept?!? BE MORE FUNNY!

I'm sorry, what were we talking about? :p

Possibly because of a combination of population density and weather? I don't have any hard data on this, but the East Coast of North America seems to have worse weather than the West Coast. Since we're stuck inside more of the time than those on the West Coast, we tend to gravitate more toward indoor activities, thus more interest in watching cartoons here? The Mid-West has bad weather too, but the population of the Mid-West isn't as large as the East Coast's. Just a theory.

Well, really now!:p

Of course, I'm aware of Disney and many others from different regions that have
contributed to this wonderful art form- in often very big ways.

I can't imagine animation without Walt Disney. Besides being very ambitious with the medium,
all(?) the West Coast studios were formed by Disney alumni.

I thought The Turtle was asking a rather silly question, so I gave a silly answer.

I am not in THE EAST; I am in THE SOUTH! (As I am constantly reminded here in NC!)

Ain't you got nothing better to think about?:p

Yes and no... You are technically in the Southeast, and with NC being the place where the Civil War (I'm sorry, "war between the states":D:p) started you have ample reason to insist it is the SOUTH! :tweety: And since a fair share of my family came from North Cahlina (right after the aformentioned civil dispute;)) I'll support ya in it.:)

(Still doesn't explain the dearth of Southerners and Westerners though...;))

I thoroughly agree Chow Hound. I am from New Jersey, but moved out here to northern New Mexico. We got over a foot of snow over the past week. Here in northern New Mexico, it's over 1000 feet higher elevation than "Denver the mile high city". Chili!

In New England were supposedly known for our harsh winters, but we haven't had anything but fog and rain.
I want my winters with snow! Damn global warming effects the water here keeping it warm. I tell ya it depresses me.:(

As you can see, I'm in a foxhole. But that's more a state of mind than a place.
