From the 1940's with Fleischer's take on Superman, to the 1990's X-Men toons and even beyond, seems that comic book characters are often good fodder for cartoon fare.

I'll get the ball rolling on this by talking about my faves.

Obviously, Fleischer's Superman sets a standard, and Fox hit a homer for me with "Batman:the Animated Series". I'm a fan of the "Fantastic Four" toons both of the 1960s, but also the 1970s because of Jack Kirby's participation.

What does everyone else like?

For me, it was the 1960's Spiderman series. ("..spins a web any size, catches thieves just like flies, look out! Here comes the Spiderman...")
Then there was Rocket Robin Hood. (Yes I know, but I'm Canadian and it was on every morning before school...)
The Mighty Hercules. ( "Hey Herc, hey Herc!"...)
Then there was a hiatus until,
Darkwing Duck. ( "Let's get dangerous!")
Batman: The Animated Series. (Love Mark Hamill's Joker)
Superman: The Animated Series. (I just discovered it on DVD!)
Spiderman: The 90's Series (Loved the animated Venom)
Pith Possum: The super dynamic possum of tomorrow! (as featured on the Shnookums & Meat Funny Cartoon Show..)
Gargoyles (Disney's coolest adventure show!)
Batman Beyond (A great look into the future of the DC universe..)
Justice League & Unlimited (Still waiting to pick up the DVDs..)
And that's about it...

I like every DC comic series that Bruce Timm worked on. Those series are very powerful.

I LOVE the often-mocked "MARVEL SUPERHEROES" show. The songs, music & voices were perfect.

Same with the '60s "SPIDER-MAN" show.

Also like the H-B F.F.!

"Doc Bruce Banner- belted by Gamma Rays--
Turned into the Hulk aint he Unglamorate!"
Is unglamorate a real word?

I loved SuperSix, the Impossibles, the Mighty Heroes, Atom Ant-- in the superhumor genre. FF(HB-'67), Spiderman (ABC-'67), Mighty Marvel(G-L -'67)
Herculoids, Space Ghost, Young Samson, Birdman...(HB) in the Superhero genre.

Space Ghost (thank you, Alex Toth)
Spider-Man (1967)
Gargoyles
Astro Boy (1963)
8th Man
and don't forget that mouse in the cape and tights who originally shared his CBS half-hour with the Mighty Heroes (even if at the ratio of 1 MM : 2 MH cartoons)!

Why not just in the same niche as 8th Man ... butt-kicking robot super-guys!

I like every DC comic series that Bruce Timm worked on. Those series are very powerful.

Whenever an influential comics artist works in an animation based on a comic book character, they seem to bring with them the sensibilities that made their work in comics just as great. To wit, I was intrigued to find out that the 1980s Superman cartoons had the great Gil Kane working on the artwork (coulda sworn it was John Byrne, but I digress). When you have that kind of talent working on your toons, you get better stories and art.

By the way, my research indicates that Bruce Timm got his start at Filmation, curiously enough.....

It's "unglamorous", sung sorta like "un-glam-O-rayss".

I liked all of the above. Also Teen Titans, X-Men Evolution (XME), Super Chicken (and sidekick Fred), Marvel Action Heroes, Thundercats, Dyno-mutt and a host of others.

OK Jim, I hate arguing with the guy who drew the cover of THE MIGHTY HEROES #1 (2nd series, Spotlight Comics)... It's the best cover of ANY of the 3 series (Dell,Spotlight, Marvel), BY FAR!

The two sources I have in print say "unglamorate"---and I've listened to it 4 times right now, and I hear the "ate" clearly enunciated.

Jim,Again--- Your Mighty Heroes ROCKED!!!!!!- I wish you'd had more chances to draw 'em----Tally Ho-- And Away!

A long time ago there were comic books of not only Superman but also another "super" character "Captain Marvel" . I did a google search and there was a very long entry. See the link below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Marvel_(Marvel_Comics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Marvel_%28Marvel_Comics))

Without having read alot of it - It appears that "Captain Marvel" was outselling Superman! Did he ever make it to cartoons? If I remember there was a guy (ala Clark Kent) who would say "Shazam" and he would turn into Captain Marvel.

In a few days, there has been release a "Marvel" box. Will start a new thread about this when I have more time.
