What's your opinion on the restoration of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection dvds?

There's only one choice I would put down.

Actually, none of the problems listed in this poll bother me. My problem is with the tinny sound quality of a lot of pre-1948 shorts. I don't know whether or not they were originally released like that (the fact that My Bunny Lies Over The Sea, a 1948 short, had excellent sound quality does make me suspicious), but it's bothersome to put on Slick Hare and hear Merrily We Roll Along with that distant and tinny sound quality (though this could be due to the fact that the cartoon's opening had to be specially restored after using that generic Blue Ribbon opening from around 1987 to 1995).

The DVNR is annoying, but other than that, I'm thrilled that we're seeing these cartoons in the state that they were originally seen for the first time in ages. I think the hoopla about the colors being too rich is bunk. All you have to do is seen an IB Tech 16mm film print to see that the cartoons were that vivid and bright.

I love the colors! My only complaint with the restoration is the occasional DVNR problems. If they would stop using DVNR it'd be perfect.

Only problem is DVNR. Otherwise, it's great!

Speaking of DVNR, were any of the cartoons on Volume 4 had this problem? I didn't see any.

DVNR sucks but I haven't noticed it on Vol. 4.

Some of the colors are a little too much but at least they're not faded, red, splicey prints. I have Tech prints of a few of the cartoons and they are stunning. I think the best example I have is Easy Peckins, because the end of the cartoon takes place at night, and it's still pretty bright.

People like John K and Steve Worth are picky over sh-t that isn't important.

I think overall, this is great except for DVNR

DVNR sucks but I haven't noticed it on Vol. 4The only thing I notice is when there's a "camera pan" things look a little funny.
Occasionally, the saturated color seems overdone on some cartoons.
I'm not dissappointed though.

I think they're doing a FANTASTIC job, and I love the brighter, more vivid colors ... these cartoons are simply the best that I've ever seen them. I've seen all the past discussions where people have mentioned DVNR; I've personally not noticed, but even so ... these are STILL the best I've ever seen these cartoons.

Keep up the great work, Jerry Beck and George Feltenstein!!

Aside from the DVNR, which was only a problem on two cartoons out of the 236 released so far, the restoration of these cartoons looks perfectly fine to me. I'm especially glad that they've saved a lot of the more faded and splicey cartoons from obscurity by restoring them for DVD - there are certain cartoons on these sets that look brand new compared to the worn out TV prints I've been used to seeing.

I'm still surprised to see these cartoons in color - I didn't get a color TV set until I was in high school, and even then when I watched cartoons it was in the morning on the black & white set, by the time I had cable I was in college and my cartoon viewing was infrequent, so many of the cartoons I'm seeing in color for the first time.

Absolutely stunning. I don't expect perfection on the older shorts... I mean, it's unrealistic to expect a 65 year old cartoon to look great without seriously altering the image (like Disney does with their features).

I'm a tad skeptical of the color saturation in some of these shorts, they aren't supposed to look like modern cartoons. Up until the last wave, I've preferred the clean-up done to the Disney shorts but than some examples like Baseball Bugs just blow me away. Overall, I can't really find enough fault to complain given just how much these sets offer. I'd like to maybe see some behind-the-scenes extras on the actual restorations and what's involved someday. I think that would be interesting to learn just what goes into producing these sets and the ammount of time and effort devoted to restoring these films.

I thought they did include an extra about the restorations on the 3rd Golden Collection DVD. I remember seeing a video of Jerry Beck and another Warner executive discussing the process they use for the restoration of the cartoons. I remember it involved using the computer to make a positive image from the original three strip Technicolor negatives. Sorry I can't give you more information, but I'm writing this off the top of my head and I don't have the DVD available right now.

Set III has a feature that goes into great length with the restoration process.
