And no, Crazy Cruise doesn't count.

Anyway, I voted for The Heckling Hare. Its plot was probably the best of any Bugs cartoon up to that point. The backgrounds are both colorful and beautifully painted. And the musical score is first rate.

Technically, "Wabbit Twouble" bewongs, er, belongs on this list, since it's basically an Avery cartoon that Clampett finished. I don't think there is more than a few seconds of actual Clampett input in the cartoon. The timing, gags, character design, even the background look -- it all screams AVERY!

That was tough - those are 4 all time top 10 Bugs cartoons. I picked Heckling Hare - the making faces scene with Bugs holding up the sign is the funniest scene in any cartoon, I've seen it hundreds of times in the last 35+ years and it still has me doubled over with laughter. It used to be part of Channel 5 NY's beginning to their Bugs Bunny show, so at one time I was seeing it multiple times a day and it's still a riot.

The Heckling Hare. Bugs Bunny is drawn beautifully, and the ending is really cool. I would like to see the original ending, if they ever find the lost footage.

So who's responsible for the fat Fudd?

Mr. Semaj~

Like everything else in "Wabbit Twouble", the fat Fudd was indeed Tex Avery's work. And yes, Tex actually redesigned Elmer all roly-poly just before scooting out the door to MGM. Since he created the original Egghead character and design, then the Elmer Fudd name for Egghead, then picked the voice, and then created the definitive 1940 design it should be no surprise to anybody that Avery would be the only one to re-design the guy in '41. :bugs2::befuddled

I like A WILD HARE the best. To me, Bugs went downhill after the debut and even more so after Avery left Schlesinger.

Actually, I don't think Elmer's design was fully developed until What's Up, Doc? in 1950. Remember that Elmer Fudd actually had a neck in most of his 40s shorts. He also had slightly larger ears.

Marty~

All very true!:) And Elmer had some further changes later as well. But I was just addressing the "fat Elmer" syndrome:D that debuted in "Wabbit Twouble".:)

And honestly, I love all FIVE of Tex's Bugs Bunny cartoons! :bugs2::bugs1::befuddled

THANK YOU!!!

My pleasure. I wish it were possible to slightly revamp the opening credits to read: SUPERVISION: FWED AVEWY. The credits may be Clampett's only solid input in the cartoon, but they're clever and easy on the eyes. [Perhaps an addendum -- CWEDITS: WOBERT CWAMPETT?]

Really? I can think of more than 50 great cartoons after Tex left.

[Perhaps an addendum -- CWEDITS: WOBERT CWAMPETT?]They should have done what they did to the other leftover Avery toons and put no director credit at all in it. That way it would have been more evident that Avery originally directed it, with very little Clampett input.

Or why not a co-credit?

So can I, but to me they're not great because of Bugs' personality but because of the screw-ups of Elmer, Yosemite, Wile E., Taz, Daffy, etc. Only Avery captured Bugs' "playful trickster" persona best. Once WWII happened and Avery left WB, Bugs morphed into a more serious "this means war" vigilante. And then under Jones he took himself even more seriously.

All of them are hysterical, but in the end I had to choose Tortoise Beats Hare 'cause it's such a classic and I love Cecil. But it still doesn't hold a candle to Cwampett's sequel!:bugs2: :bugs1: :bugs2:
