This is IMO another one of the better D/S shorts. Does anybody agree/disagree with me?

This is a politically incorrect cartoon. By the way it mirrors pretty well the rude capitalism (Daffy Duck) and the dumb sponging socialism (mice).

Why is this cartoon politically incorrect?? Please elaborate...:daffy: :speedy:

It's a miss. The cartoon tries too hard to be funny--for example, the line "I have a sister who looks like a train." I'm trying to picture it before I can laugh at it.

Also, the plodding music by Bill Lava is too much for me to take.

Miss. Waste of a good effort from story man David Detiege. This film needed a more substantial orchestra, given that music was an important plot element.

Miss, as are all Daffy/Speedy cartoons.

Miss, as are all Daffy/Speedy cartoons.

I don't get why these entries are even open for debate to begin with.

Ditto. With all the great cartoons in the world to watch, and with WB's Golden Age stuff pretty arguably the best, why spend even six minutes deliberately watching the absolute dreggs of their output?:shame:

The cartoon made the mexicans look absolutely dumb, sponge, lazy people, that's why I think it's politically incorrect. This cartoon is the most reminiscent of the original pre-64 Speedy shorts, where Speedy also tried to save the poor and dumb mice pals from the danger.

Well, we have different opinion mate. You and many others hate them, while many of us don't. Of course this series is not on the level of the golden WB toons, but that doesn't mean it's not watchable. Some of these toons are decent (well particularly Go, go amigo is an average... not a great one, but not a rubbish one either).

Exactly. A Hit/Miss poll for one of WB's golden age cartoons would be so one-sided (towards "Hit", of course) that it probably wouldn't be very interesting. You all remember this, right? http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/showthread.php?t=6703&highlight=Bunny+Lies+Sea

It's nice to see what some consider among the better post-64 shorts, as well as what some consider among the worst (you know, for comedic value).

Well that's not a very good choice for debate to begin with, as I seriously question the taste of anyone who'd consider that one a miss.

Maybe talk about some of the lesser discussed non-Jones/Clampett (the directors people have more of a bias towards, myself included) titles and you'll get more of a varied response.

I honestly wish there were a few of these dreggs on a Golden Collection in the future so you guys could see how bad they really are. Even with the Speedy marathon on Vol. 4, you'll see how awful they are compared to previous full animation entries in the series (though Nuts and Volts is arguably one of Friz's worst).

Yep. Life's too short to waste my time on them.

But you realize, Thad, that it could always be worse, don't you?

For instance, I could create a hit-or-miss poll about Luno ...!

(But I won't. Really. I promise.)

Hmmmm... I think we should talk about all that superb-QUALITY animation in the universally lauded Jay Ward's "Rocky And Bullwinkle":D:D:D:p:tweety:.

Or that ever-so-creative animation that came out of Hanna-Barbera from 1958 onwards;). Or that FINE writing they had from about 1966 onwards:eek:.

Let's see, and then the terrific theatrical cartoons of Lantz's Paul J. Smith...

I say "Hit". Not "great", but perfectly watchable with some good gags. The music is really bad in this cartoon though, not fitting to the theme at all. :speedy:

I actually have a bootleg DVD with every Speedy cartoon ever released, which includes all the post-64 shorts (even The Chocolate Chase). Having seen pretty much every cartoon on there at least once, I can honestly say that I don't really find a lot of the Daffy/Speedy cartoons to be much worse than most of the pre-1964 Speedy cartoons. For example, many complain about the oddity of Daffy going after Speedy. Thing is, Sylvester never really had much chemistry with Speedy either. It was often better for Speedy to be paired with one-shot characters (like the two Mexican cats in Mexicali Schmoes).
