I re-watched this cartoon for the 1st time in zillion years. I wonder what is your opinion about this one.
I voted a hit, because the plot is original for a Speedy-Sylvester cartoon, the new falcon character is great, and the gags are good.
Unfortunately the entertainment is nearly destroyed by an awful animation. How dare Friz Freleng let this awful looking Sylvester to the theatres?

Yep. That's a hit. Too bad it's been so long since I've seen that one. For one of the few times that DePatie-Freleng uses Sylvester, I found that cartoon very enjoyable. I wish they would have made more like that.

DePatie-Freleng would've been more successful if they used less Daffy and Sppedy, and used Sylvester more, or maybe continued the Bugs Bunny series (why exactly was his theatrical run retired in 1964?).
That said, this is a hit. My favorite part is when Sylvester tries to revive the burnt and unconscious falcon, only for the bird to suddenly spring back to life and peck the hell out of him again.

I agree. Sylvester could have taken Daffy's place in most DePatie-Freleng cartoons, well except for "A Taste of Catnip." In fact, the biggest problem with those cartoons was how mean Daffy was. That might have been a bit more in character if they used Sylvester. He always had more of a mean streak. Daffy was just greedy for the most part. Just my opinion on this.

Disagree. Daffy never chased Speedy because he wanted to eat him, but because the rodents are bothering his territory or he was hired to catch Speedy for money. The only one which should have worked with Sylvester was the cheater Mucho Locos (and maybe Chili corn corny).
Meanwhile Yosemite Sam could be a better replacement in a few ones (esp. in Astroduck and Assault and peppered).
Ontopic: Anyone else noticed how badly was Sly drawn in RtA? His neck is large, and his chest look uglier.

Yeah. He did look strange in that cartoon. I wonder why that was. He looked fine in "Cats and Bruises."

Also, Sam would have worked in "Well Worn Daffy" as well, they'd just have to change the title to "Well Worn Sammy."
That "one drop too many" line does sound more like Sam would say it rather than Daffy. Of course, in Speedy cartoons, maybe it would have been Pancho Vanilla rather than :ysam: .

Actually, the ending is what puts it over the top as a miss for me. Why would Speedy need to shout to Sylvester and the hawk "Hey, wait for me!!"? Couldn't Speedy have beaten them into town easily?
Plus the rest of the toon was quite sloppy.

Actually most of the DFE cartoons have an extremely lame and confusing ending...
