I was told this information and didn't know who would appreciate it - except you guys.

At least Universal is using the Lantz library in some way.

Please Elaborate, Jerry. What is this about? Did Universal use a clip from a Lantz Cartoon in something Miami Vice related?

I think Jerry is referring to the new MIAMI VICE movie opening on Friday.

Yes, I am refering to the new movie opening Friday. I haven't seen it, but a famous movie critic/animation historian friend-of-mine just saw it today and told me this tid-bit of info. Maybe the LANTZ-O-PEDIA should start a page listing Universal features with Lantz clips in them. There are many.

Could this be a case of one of the crew members being a Lantz fan (akin to the UPA cartoons in Hallboy back at Columbia)

According to this thread over on the ANIMATION HISTORY forums (http://www.animationshow.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2739) a Woody Woodpecker clip also shows up in the new movie YOU, ME AND DUPREE. Is Woody in two summer movies this year? :woody:

Jerry, that seems to be the only way Universal is using the Lantz library. At this rate, by sometime around the year 3000 they'll have used enough cartoon clips in their feature films for people to be able to view the entire Lantz collection just by watching people on screen watching Woody, Andy, Chilly and the rest on their video screens.

What Universal should do is give theaters prints of these films so that they can play them before the movies.:woody::andy::rabbit::chilly:

That would be the only logical reason to do so. Of course I'm reminded of back when they had "Problem Child 2" in the theaters, and "Smoked Hams" had to front that train wreck.

Perhaps we might get another "Hellboy" like release of a Lantz cartoon getting put on DVD someday.

I know there is a clip of PUNY EXPRESS in PSYCHO III - Norman Bates also freaks out hearing the Mel Blanc/Woody laugh over and over and over...!

Anyone have any other examples? :woody:

With Disney and WB (LT, HB, even MGM shorts as bonus cartoons), showing ever-increasing interest in releasing their classic animation to its fans, is Universal really this clueless?

Surely somebody within Universal is at least planning something? Even a "best of" set?!?

Anyone have any other examples? :woody: In "Twelve Monkeys" there is a clip from "Prehistoric Super Salesman" on the TV. The choice of that cartoon is a good one, as it also involves time travel.
