I watched some of Boomerang's Tom and Jerry marathon the other day, and got curious. What was the first cartoon to feature Spike with the Jimmy Durante/Doggie Daddy voice (presumably Daws Butler) as opposed to the tough-guy Billy Bletcher persona? And why was it changed?

And as a side-note, they showed some of those Spike/Tom/Jerry back yard battles that I hadn't seen in a long time...and they floored me. I want the next Tom and Jerry DVD to include THOSE. Especially those with Tyke, and the army of earthquake-stomping ants!

The first cartoon with Spike voiced by Butler was "Love that Pup".

They seem to have changed the name from Butch to Spike to go with this voice change.
