THAT is one mud-ugly design!!! Honest to-goodness at first I thought it was another John K. take on classic TV characters (no offense meant to anybody). But evidently somebody else designs stuff like Mr. K.

god that thing is hideous..
Who comes up with these designs and why do animators even bother with art schools and expensive courses if this is the sort of thing that gets picked up by the networks... ugh.
It looks like The Fairly Odd Parents had sex with some ironic flash webtoon.

Actually, what it looks like is a slighy varation on the Disney Channel's first attempt to mimic Jay Ward, "Dave the Barbarian". It seems as if all 2-D animation designs for TV nowadays have to fall somewhere in-between looking like a bad Mary Blair rip-off and something coming out of a John K-Ralph Bakshi collaberation (well, except for Cartoon Network, where the designs have to either look like bad anime or just be plain plug ugly).

That is one ugly design! Although, I've never actually watched the Jay Ward cartoon series (I've only seen the movie released by Disney with Brendan Frasier).

Apparently that's the direction these execs think is the way animation is going these days.

That's probably the best way to put this!

I wonder if Borris and Natasha are behind this (please feel free to steal this for a chain link fan-fic in the Looney Bin section as I am not good at fan-fics).
Did you check out Studio B's original designs?
http://www.studiobproductions.com/
They were fairly close to Jay Ward's designs.
Why would they get changed to those which they have now?

Two things: money and stupidity.

The original designs are closer, but who is this "J Ward" of whom they speak (or did they just run out of room for his full first name on the webpage?)

Well, in fairness, Jay Ward's legal name was J Troplong Ward (yes, just "J").

Actually, John K. would be just as mad at these designs as we are. He has stated on his blog many times that he hates the modern day, flat, trying-to-be-UPA style.
No, if John K. worked on this, every time George hit a tree we'd see blood, bone, sinew, cartiledge, saliva, and boogers fly everywhere.;)

Ya know... As much as I HATE the idea of turning vintage/classic theatrical cartoon characters into CGI versions, after looking at this version of George of the Jungle, it actually makes me sort of WANT to see the CGI version of Mighty Mouse!! :p
