Does anyone know anything about cartoon director Alec Geiss? The IMDb web site (which isn't always accurate) credits him as directing only 11 films, all from 1942-1944. I assume they were all done at Screen Gems. I've seen four of these, and none of them is good. What did he do before and after Screen Gems? Did he ever put out anything good?

Geiss had a had a fairly long history really... He was at Fleischer's back in the early, early thirties. I believe he went somewhere else, and I KNOW he was at Disney till immediately before his residence at Columbia... NEITHER Fleischer or Disney EVER let him close to the director's chair though... Why Tashlin would have let him is beyond me...

Here's a trivia tid-bit: Tony Geiss, who co-wrote AN AMERICAN TAIL and THE LAND BEFORE TIME, is his son.

However, Dave Fleischer let him stay in the director's chair, once he took over Screen Gems...

Absolutely true!! I don't think it's any mere coincidence that (with one exception) ALL of the directors who worked under Dave at Screen Gems were former Fleischerites!! (Even if from 10 or more years before). :betty::sailor::fox::crow:
