And to think I thought some of the people here spoke unkindly about Clampett.

I believe Paul Fennell is the guy who shares joint credit with Larry Harmon in some of the early Bozo The Clown cartoons. They say "A Larry Harmon/Paul Fennell Production." At least on the circa 1980 VHS copies I have (which also say "The character of Bozo is based on Bozo The Capitol Clown, created by Alan Livingston"). I wonder if either of these credits are still visible on currently distributed prints of these shorts.

I don't know about currently distributed copies of Bozo The Clown cartoons... But the originals were LARGELY directed by Paul Fennell... He also then directed some of the better made-for-TV Mr. Magoos (as well as a few perverse Popeye episodes) under Larry Harmon's employment.

Didn't Fennell animate at Schlesinger in the 30's, but without credit?

Yep, Fennell did indeed animate at Schlesinger in 1933 (as he had at Disney just before that). He was the FIRST animator there that the young Chuck Jones assisted. I've never found an answer as to why Fennell left before his name could even get on a single credit at Leon's. And of course he then turned up briefly at Fleischer as a "head-animator" on a single cartoon, before heading to Harman-Ising...
edit... And yes, Fennell's being at Leon's in 1933 DOES indeed mean that he worked nearly elbow to elbow not only with his assistant Chuck Jones, but with Bob Clampett... Who knows? Maybe Paul's hatred of Bob goes back to something that happened at Schlesinger's in 1933. Interesting to speculate about!:tweety:

Paul Finnell was one of the directing animators at Cartoon Films, Inc, Iwerks Company. He directed some of the Columbia Rhapsodies that Iwerks did, and ran the studio after Iwerks left. He directed those little shell oil commercials from 1940-1.

Thanks for the information! I wonder if "theplanner" knew Fennell; he said he worked at Filmation.

Maybe Bob used to hid Paul's heart medicine? <---totally unfounded speculation

...Orrrrr maybe Paul thought Clampett's very frequent fainting spells were mocking his own heart condition...?!?!:p:eek:

Ahh... now we know where Pauls' meds went.
Bobby was eatin' them like M & Ms, which caused his blood pressure to drop and, voi-la, fainting spells!
(Hmm, there must be some William Campbell involvement here, somewhere...)
P.S. Eddie's blog (http://uncleeddiestheorycorner.blogspot.com/) is a hoot!

Quoting Eddie Fitzgerald:
Paul was red-faced, caught up in the fury of it all. On the way out of the room he shouted, "Because Clampett is a punk and so are you! Punk! Punk! Punk! I'm gonna tell my friend Bill Hanna about you. You'll never get a job at that studio!"
Thus proving yet again that the older we get, the younger we'll act. Beware.
