A few days ago, it was reported that Tom and Jerry topped a survey for favorite cartoon characters among children in India (http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/showthread.php?t=615). Now the BBC reports (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3692108.stm) that Tom and Jerry recently were #1 on a similar poll conducted among adults aged between 25 and 54.

The Top 10 list:

1) Tom and Jerry (1940)
2) Scooby-Doo (1969)
3) Dangermouse (1981)
4) Top Cat (1961)
5) The Flintstones (1960)
6) Bugs Bunny (1940)
7) Popeye (1933)
8) Road Runner (1964)
9) Wacky Races (1968)
10) Hong Kong Phooey (1974)

This isn't big news, but I always enjoy reading about how these cartoons are still loved and enjoyed by people of all ages from all over the world. :tomcat: :jerry:

I guess it's hardly suprising that Tom & Jerry is voted #1. Most people I know have said they enjoyed these cartoons more. :tomcat: :jerry:

Overall, quite a good list. Of course, Scooby-Doo would never be in my top ten, but I do acknowledge that many people here across the pond are big fans of the cartoon series, so I've got no complaints.

Mind you, it's great to see Dangermouse in the top three. ;)

Very good to see Dangermouse in the top 3. I used to watch that show religiously on Nick, and hope that they release it on DVD one day.

Good to see Road Runner along with Bugs. I wonder if that list includes Daffy and Porky, too.

Strange there's no disney character's on that list, I would have thought Donald was really popular over here. About from that and the inclusion of Scooby Doo (damn him to hades!) its a good list. I prefer Count Duckula to Dangermouse mind.

9) Wacky Races (1968)
The inclusion of THAT title ALWAYS amazes me .... as I always kinda sorta mebbe thought that it was a Cult Favourite....as opposed to appealing to the masses.....a al "WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME!"..

Though the just released DVD of "W.R." most INDEED has proved me WRONG (For the ONE & ONLY time during this DECADE!:D )
