Am I alone in saying that the Looney Tunes Golden Collection dvds are a bit lacking? Most series cartoon fans would more appreciate it if these DVDs were released based on the works of individual directors, not characters. I would love to have a Chuck Jones dvd, a Bob Clampett, ect. Or at the very least, I would love to see WB turn the old Bob Clampett, Tex Avery, Toonheads, and Chuck Jones shows into dvds.

We almost got something like that on the First Golden Collection; The 3rd Disc of that Set was almost all Chuck Jones cartoons with 2 Bob Clampett Cartoons at the end, and the 4th Disc was almost all Friz Freleng cartoons with 5 Robert McKimson cartoons.

Well, from a business standpoint, I think what they're doing makes sense.
They want people to buy all the collections, so you spread out the different
directors and different eras so people have to collect it all.

For myself, I'm not sure if I'd really want all of Clampett's black & white stuff
all on one collection.

I'm happy with the current context.

I don't think I'd be able to stomach complete sets of strictly Jones and Freleng's later works. Let alone some of the "other" unit directors.

While Id happily sit through volumes of Tashlin, Clampett, etc. I like the variation that this offers. It's how most of us grew up on these cartoons anyways, both in their original theatrical run (imagine if the films were distributed monthly or whatever by director...) nor were they broadcast as such on later TV airings.

I think most of us familiarized ourselves with these cartoons through syndication on TNT, etc. and even some through home video in the early 80s.

This makes for a nice stylistic mix.

And if we were to really approach the sets from a historic and scholarly standpoint, I think chronological releases would work much better than directorial. But we've already gone over why that would never work from a commercial/marketing stance.

I'm very happy with the current formats. If only WB could go back and rework the covers to something even slightly attractive and less gaudy... :o

I got the idea that the next volume of the Golden Collection ***MUST*** contain a disc to tribute McKimson and his barnyard obsession.

Here is my dreamlist:

McKimson's barnyard funnies

Hen House Henery
Fractured Leghorn
Of Rice and Hen
Lovelorn Leghorn
Mother was a Rooster
Crowing Pains
Weasel Stop
High and the Flighty
Little Boy Boo
Easy Peckins'
It's Hummertime
Feather Dusted
Leghorn Blows at Midnight
Plop Goes the Weasel
Shell-Shocked Egg
Sign if you like this idea. :) :foggy:
