There's a new Looney Tunes webcartoon on the official Looney Tunes website (http://looneytunes.warnerbros.com/web/toons/toons.jsp), "Full Metal Racket," with Sylvester and Tweety. The cartoon is pretty predictable and features a new (and annoying) ant character.

I posted my thoughts of it in the Looney Tunes Webcartoons thread somewhere here.

That is apparently R.Lee Ermey as the Ant.

He always plays those types of characters.

OK that cartoon just plain out-and-out sucked. Why can't they construct full six minute cartoons? Is it THAT hard to script something? Having Sylvester, Tweety, and Hector sent off to a boot camp is an idea with promise, but why the hell did the drill sergeant have to be an ANT?! You'd think they'd be able to come up with a decent idea since they don't have any reality game shows to parody now (of course, we'll probably end up seeing WILL & GRACE or LAW & ORDER parodies in the near future....).

I could probably come up with a better script after a few drinks and a lobotomy...

Well, I finally saw it and yes, it is probably the worst webtoon they've churned out yet. The only remotely redeeming quality to the short was the ending when that moronic Lee Ermey-esque ant dies. After I finished watching it, I came off suspecting that this was the result of a staffer, working on these webtoons, doing a "Full Metal Jacket" impression - and of course, somebody thought it was funny so they made it into a cartoon.

I agree, that one SUCKS. I didn't mind the idea or even the character so much as I did the herky-jerky animation....the characters don't stay still long enough for the eyes to adjust, and there are way too many jumpcuts. It's badly animated and not particularly funny. Plus, they even reused some animation. Check out that screenshot of Sylvester swimming there....that was used in the Survivor parody, a screen saver, and it's also in a new webgame they have up. :sylvester

Ugh. Anybody do any web animation (i.e. Flash or SVG)? I've been wondering what type of tools are out there for this sort of thing and how it's done. I'd like to learn such things without spending the cash of course. :D

I'd like to see someone come up with a SVG tool for animation (particularly of the cartoon length like these webtoons rather than the simple web animation you see nowadays).

Regards,
Jeff

I understand Warner Bros.' need to keep Looney Tunes relevant and in the public eye, but isn't there a better way to do it than this?

Unless they release more direct-to-video movies that make you sick...

OK that cartoon just plain out-and-out sucked. Why can't they construct full six minute cartoons? Is it THAT hard to script something? Most likely, seeing as how the toons are NOT being made to await BOX-OFFICE reciepts (i.e. not cinema releases..), apparently it's not deemed necessary to apply as much effort into the web toons's "creation"..:(
