I've asked around about this, but so far with no leads.

Years and years ago my parents had some standard 8mm silent films. My father was a big photography buff and took a lot of home movies. He'd show them on some nights and periodically throw in a Castle "Abbott & Costello" or a Laurel & Hardy abridgement, or a cartoon. He had this one cartoon...the title was missing and I can't swear to it but I think it may have been released by Castle Films. It was B&W but could have been originally B&W or a B&W version of a cartoon originally made in color. It was the story of "The Magic Flute" and I remember the characters being a couple of dogs, the lead character kind of dressed like Robin Hood or something like that...the more I think about this now, I think it may have either been a Terrytoon or maybe even Cubby Bear by Van Beuren. (Not a dog) I asked a couple of animation historians, but understandably, my sketchy info was not enough to make an identification. The story line may have had to do with the Pied Piper and I am seeming to think may have had some references to Jack & The Beanstalk, but I haven't seen this film in at least 30 years and it is long gone.

Anyone?

There's an obscure 7-minute cartoon on an old Parent's Approved Video I have which is called the Magic Flute and is in color. It's about a young man who is wandering through the woods and happens upon an old witch who has gotten her long pointy nose stuck in a tree stump after offering him her loaf of bread. After he breaks the stump to free her, she gives him a magic whistle which makes animals dance to it. When he returns to the king and is able to hypnotize the rabbits and make them dance, either the boy or another person's life is spared and him and his mother can live happily ever after.
The animation is c60s and I'm not sure who produced it. Actually, I have a full length Pinnochio feature done by the same company on a Goodtimes video.
Sound familiar?

I think I've seen the one you mentioned above. But this one, from what I recall, has to be earlier than that, probably from the 30s. Thanks, though. (Maybe even a Terrytoon?)
