It appears The Boomerang Zoo may be closing.
The hour block of classic Hanna-Barbera shorts is being replaced it seems.
Now by what you may ask?
Well...

Yes, that's right! Mike, Lu and Og. A true modern classic!
Originating on Cartoon Network's What A Cartoon Show! This classic series created by Chuck Swenson features the voice talent of Nancy Cartwright (The Simpsons) and Dee Bradley Baker (Codename: Kids Next Door). This modern classic ran for 26 episodes between 1999 and 2001. Now you can see all 26 episodes over and over and over and over and over twice daily on Boomerang - "It's All Coming Back To You, Already".
Boomerang is Turner Broadcasting Inc.'s 24-hour network dedicated to... well, we are not realy sure anymore.

Sadly, I am not surprised to hear this. (I guess giving up one of the 4 time slots devoted to Dexter was out of the question, huh?)
On the other hand, I will be shocked if we get a June Bugs marathon this year. I am not holding my breath. :bugs1:

I must say that I am very disappointed to hear this news. But at least we
still have YOGI BEAR, MAGILLA GORILLA and SECRET SQUIRREL (but for how
long??).

Who wants to start a betting pool on when we'll start seeing older Adult Swim shows pop up on Boomerang?

Are we talking about the one Cartoon Cartoon that bombed so much CN wanted to pretend never existed? It's now coming back to Boomerang?!
This is certainly The Twilight Zone of Television.

I have heard some strong rumors that TW is considering moving Adult Swim to TBS from Cartoon Network, but I can't say on how true this really is.

Yeah, I had heard the same rumor, too. Adult Swim is preventing CN from getting into the "family packages" of many cable systems. Even if Adult Swim does go off to TBS, I imagine CN will just fill the new airtime with more Kids Next Door reruns and great animated movies like "My Girl 2" and "Dumb and Dumber".

*holds a barf bag and vomits hearing Sheep in the big cit*
That was another CN bomb that still to this day stinks!!
Was a RIpoff of Rockey and bullwinkle show, and a poorly made one also.
This was even worse then the filmations Tom and Jerry Comedy hour.
Lets hope Turner Permently retired this show and Burns the prints

Again I ask, with almost every worthwhile series available (or soon-to-be available) on DVD... who really cares?
Once Quickdraw is released along with the follow-up seasons of Huckleberry Hound, is there really any need to watch Boomerang at all anymore?
Just about every worthwhile animated television and theatrical series that would receive network distribution anyway (save for the early silents and Fleischer-era films, early MGM, Columbia, etc) are available in better format on home video. I don't even subscribe to cable anymore because I find that DVD has rendered it pointless to my viewing.
I don't really understand why anyone would care at this point.
It's been the direction the networks have been heading for the past 5 + years now...

I beg to differ. The design and animation were the weakest points about
THE BULLWINKLE SHOW (a.k.a. ROCKY & HIS FRIENDS), as most fans would
agree. The episodes were, for the most part, animated in Mexico (because
the labor was cheaper). But the writing (and voice acting) were brilliant. Those writers went on to pen some of the most popular prime-time television series (e.g., THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, BARNEY MILLER, MORK & MINDY,
GET SMART, and THE JEFFERSONS). And it goes without saying that all of
the actors (June Foray, Bill Scott, Paul Frees, William Conrad, Edward Everett
Horton, Walter Tetley, Charlie Ruggles, Daws Butler, Hans Conreid) were
excellent. "Dull"? Never. It was a classic (in spite of the crude animation).
Again I ask, with almost every worthwhile series available (or soon-to-be available) on DVD... who really cares?
Because there are children growing up who don't know who Bugs Bunny is, thanks to no television exposure.
Now really, who wants to live in a world like THAT?!

Mike, Lu and Og? I thought that show was CN's worst failure...why would they put it on Boomerang? I don't think anyone is "nostalgic" for it, in ANY age group. Maybe they should start showing "Cow and Chiicken" now, too...or did they already try that?

What show is this "Mike, Lu and Og" of which you speak? I only had my DirecTV service for two years, and I am not familiar with those shows as they were before we recieved service.

I only had my DirecTV service for two years, and I am not familiar with those shows as they were before we recieved service. :confused:It was a show about a girl (Mike) being sent to a distant island and had to live with a family of natives. Without a doubt the most boring show CN ever did. Every single plot was either done a zillion times or a cliché of some sort, resulting in a very predictable show, not to mention unfunny, as most of the time the cartoon didn't even try to entertain. The few jokes it had seem forced. It lasted only 26 episodes, and I'm willing to bet once the episodes aired, the makers of it wondered, "We actually did this?"
As I said earlier, CN wanted to pretend this show never existed, until now.

I'm sure it will show up on Boomerang's line-up sooner or later.
Also, does anyone else think that we'll probably be seeing Ben 10, Robot Boy, The Zixx, and My Gym Partner's a Monkey on Boomerang by 2012?

hard to say, but i am willing to say
cow may have had its day do to a Lawsuit a company put up that was spoofed in the series, and didn't get there total permision to use there logos (even spoofed) in the toon.
Last I read in 2002, was the lawsuit was still pending and there was a stop order imposed.
i think its sad to see CN and Boomerang go down the Toliet as they have in the last 10 yrs.
how many shows has CN had that have Tanked
We know Cow, Sheep, Mike lu and og, were soem that got cancelled, and PPG, JB, and a few others were just ended, (with hoping that EDs will be ending this coming season).

I guess you're right Thad, but I think it's all just too fragmented now anyway...
It's a different world than when we (assumably) grew up.
When we turned on the TV Saturday morning or afterschool during the week, and tuned into one of the three or four network channels, we admittedly had little to chose from in contrast to today -- but it was mostly all of quality. Whether it was The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show, Hanna Barbera & Jay Ward Cartoons, etc. It served as an introduction to many among our generation. We grew familiar with and knew what to expect from these shows.
Nowadays with satelite in many homes and the dozens upon dozens of specific networks devoted to either sports, music, pre-teen programming, etc.. it leaves out a large part of the experience that many of us shared and were turned onto at a young age watching television, and cartoons specifically. Whereas nowadays there might be more options, however with that, less exposure is offered given the sheer abundance of inferior programming choices.
Would anyone not already familiar with the likes of say, Barney Bear (I know it's a stretch!)... bother to tune in or seek out these cartoons?
Where I live, networks like Boomerang are only offered on subscription basis and usually available wityh a package of pre-chopsen channels. So whereas I might have flipped to TNT on a Saturday morning and caught these early MGM or Warner Bros. shorts which captured my attention and left me mesmerized and glued to the screen... these days, it seems more likely that kids would watch shows that they are probably already familiar with and know to tune into.
I can't even convince my younger sister to log off MSN or put down the telephone long enough to watch a show or movie with me. And when she actually does, it'll usually be something like the OC or anything else that involves a bunch of obnoxious teenagers and bad whiny emo pop soundtrack.
Younger kids are raised on Dora The Explorer and cheap Flash animated thoughtless condescending drivel.
I think the only ones who would really gripe over the loss of these shows, would be people like us who post on forums like GAC or Toonzone or wherever. And than again I ask... who really cares anymore - I've got the DVD! :tweety:
I agree that it's becoming the wave of the future that DVDs and the internet will be introducing children to Bugs Bunny 'and pals', but I haven't really seen any attempt by Warners in doing that.
Disney can at least be given credit for introducing kids to their characters, as the 'Classic Cartoon Favorites' singles have been very big hits. It's just that the Mickey-related and initial Donald volumes are the wrong shorts to introduce kids to. I mean, the initial Donald volume didn't even have anything with the nephews for God's sake!

Sadly true. We just need to convince more companies to release DVDs of these so we'd stop complaining further.

Yes. You took the words right out of my mouth (or rather from the keyboard, lol). That's the exact issue - too much focus on actors/actresses and the like. I mean, who really cares if Tom Hanks or whoever has a baby/love affair/fashion line or whatever... everyone's too damn vain nowadays.

what are the odds that the goofs in charge of Boomerang actually don't watch the channel? It's turned from a fun little channel into a junk drawer.
