Hey, fellow GACers. Jerry Beck, Michael Barrier, Kneon Transitt, and of course our own Thad have been using (http://www.cartoonbrew.com) their (http://classicanimation.blogspot.com) great (http://www.michaelbarrier.com) blogs (http://kneontransitt.blogspot.com/2006/04/walt-disney-treasures-sneak-peek.html) to help me circulate this advert/press release for Gemstone's upcoming Walt Disney Treasures comics TPB.
It hadn't landed on the GAC boards yet, though, so I figured I'd present it here in case anyone wanted to blog it themselves, or pass it further along.

We'll soon be here— http://www.gemstonepub.com/disney
And in the meantime we're here— http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/188847237...glance&n=283155 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1888472375/103-2860439-8054248?v=glance&n=283155)
Spread the word (and the custard pies). Where will we be next?

David, The contents here sound excellent. Gemstone, is definetly making me go to the bank this summer. As for "Race to the South Seas" will you be using the print from Disney's DDA#15. I noticed they were a couple of errors such as the translation. I hate to complain about the cover of the book, the Don Rosa cover looks great. I think Carl Bark's painting "In Uncle Walts Collectory" would be more suitable.

As for "Race to the South Seas" will you be using the print from Disney's DDA#15. I noticed they were a couple of errors such as the translation.Sorry to correct you, but "South Seas" was reprinted in Disney Comics' Donald Duck Adventures 26 and Gladstone's Carl Barks Library of Donald Duck Adventures 14. I (gulp!) don't think it was ever in issue 15 of anything.
That said, the version of "South Seas" in Treasures is not quite the same as the older Disney or Gladstone reprints, all of which used the reinked Daan Jippes version of the story.
The Treasures version started with the Jippes reink, but we have gone in and replaced a lot of the Jippes art with restored pieces of the original Barks art. The result is a lot more like the Barks original, particularly in the design of Donald's nephews.
We also fixed the translation, as you pointed out, for the two spots where Dutch text was previously left in the story (a note read "Dagobert" instead of Scrooge; a boat was named "Kwaak" instead of Quack).I hate to complain about the cover of the book, the Don Rosa cover looks great. I think Carl Barks' painting "In Uncle Walt's Collectory" would be more suitable. In fact, I did consider using that painting for the cover! But if you think about it, the subject of the painting is more collectibles in general than comics in particular; the focus is on a stuffed animal. And while I liked showing the Ducks and Mickey together, I preferred a cover featuring Mickey himself, rather than a model of him.
Then there was the fact that while the Barks painting has appeared in many places, the Rosa drawing had only ever appeared in a French comic book, and not even as the cover. I figured it ought to be put to use for its original purpose at last.
Hope you see why I did what I did!

Beautiful painting. And sadly, telling. The ducks are "real" while poor Mickey is just a toy? Almost like they're making fun of the poor lil' guy.

Either that or Donald had him stuffed and mounted during one of his... episodes.

I'm confused; how does ordering through Amazon help GAC? I guess I'd thought to support my local comic dealer and all that, and order through him.

Quite the line-up Gemstone has going in the next few months. I didn't know there had been anything unusual with Barks Race to the South Seas. I for one am pretty excited to see all these new books coming out. Should be a summer with good reading.

David, This looks AWESOME - I hope that it will be a continuing series of sorts!

Plans aren't set in stone yet, but I do have plans for future volumes should the first one sell well. With next year in mind, I'm thinking of a rather special Gottfredson volume and a commemoration of Scrooge's 60th anniversary. But there are many more cool themed collections that it's not so hard to envision...

Ahh. Okay. I've just discovered this site, but it's pretty cool. Just make sure someone publishes those links.

Hey Thad et al.,

Just to be clear, on what books does GAC get a slice of Amazon sales? Just Gemstone-published? Andrae's new book? I ask because I'll buy those books through Amazon, but the others from my comic shop. Thanks.

David, is [Walt Disney Treasures (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=1888472375/theunofficlooneyA/)] a paperback or a hardcover edition (or both?)It's presently planned as a paperback; we've spoken of perhaps doing a hardback edition as well, but nothing's been finalized there yet. When will the hardcover Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck be released?Next year, for Scrooge's 60th anniversary. When the hardcover Life follow-up will be released?
When you'll send me that famous PM?The hardback edition will combine the original Life of Scrooge (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0911903968/ref=pd_cp_b_title/102-7200484-5848103?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) and the Companion (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1888472405/ref=pd_cp_b_title/102-7200484-5848103?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) book.
I'm sorry about the PM, Andrea. But I need to index about twelve VHS tapes before I can proceed— gasp!

Hey, good news! Reader interest in Walt Disney Treasures—Disney Comics: 75 Years of Innovation has led Amazon to begin offering it at a discount. It's now only $10! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=1888472375/theunofficlooneyA/)

Doing an hardcover edition too would be a great idea. This way even people outside US could order it.
Actually I do not order paperback comics or books from States because they can be ruined easily. Things are of course different with an hardcover edition....

The hardback edition will combine the original Life of Scrooge (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0911903968/ref=pd_cp_b_title/102-7200484-5848103?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) and the Companion (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1888472405/ref=pd_cp_b_title/102-7200484-5848103?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155) book.

I'm happy about the "Life.." news!
Is it going to include all the "Companion" stories?

And I'll be patient about the PM, David...but I'd love to start our trade before June......;)

I had no idea you were doing a Life of Scrooge Companion book! I liked your new compilation of the original series, so I'll have to watch for the second book, as well as the Disney Treasures book.

David, I'm proud to do my part. (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=10443)Thanks so much, Javeman!

Something odd, though. I went to take a look at your actual TZ news item, and I saw that below it appeared a link saying "Discuss this news in the Disney Animation Forum." When I clicked that link, it brought me to a page from which I could initiate a talkback thread—something I'd have liked to do, to tell TZ readers more about the book.
Unfortunately, the page insisted I type in my username and password—even though I was already logged in!—and it wouldn't accept the ones I gave: "Please verify that your password is correct and that your account is active." Odd... my password was correct (I'd just logged into TZ with it shortly before), and I know my account is active.

Javeman, could you look into why this is happening? Are others blocked from starting talkback threads, too?

(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=1888472375/theunofficlooneyA/)Ten dollars? How long will the sale last? The next time I order from Amazon I'll get it (through this site) if the sale is still on. If not I'll have my comic shop guy put it on hold for me.

The book looks amazing!

Javeman, could you look into why this is happening? Are others blocked from starting talkback threads, too?Mmm... that's weird. It's probably some kind of glitch that happened with the latest software upgrade (it's possible that only mods and reporters are allowed to start talkbacks out of news items), I'll ask the Software experts soon.

In the meantime, I have already started the talkback myself (right here (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=166214)), feel free to go inside and post.
