Hi Gang,

I have a couple of minor gripes regarding some Blue Ribbon title cards:

"A Day at the Zoo" (original release March 11, 1939; BR issue 1953-54): There is an incorrect copyright date of 1937 (MCMXXXVII) on the WB title card. Also, there is no BR #, but I believe it to be #1308.

"The Early Worm Gets the Bird" (original release January 13, 1940; BR issue 1953-54, #1318): There is an incorrect copyright date of 1938 (MCMXXXVIII) on the WB title card.

"Snow Time for Comedy" (original release August 30, 1941; BR issue 1952-53, #1254): There is an incorrect copyright date of 1944 (MCMXLIV) on the WB title card.

I wouldn't call the WB title card on "A Wild Hare" (original release July 27, 1940; BR issue 1944-45) much of a gripe, as it VERY briefly has a 1944 copyright date before changing to 1940 (MCMXL) (the year of the 'toon's original release).

Have any of you LT/MM fans noticed these before?

A Day At The Zoo's copyright I have noticed. Ditto to A Wild Hare (which I think was actually reissued as a blue ribbon in 1942).

Marty,

According to Dave Mackey's WB Animation page, Warner Bros. and Leon Schlesinger did not commission the "Blue Ribbon" reissue program until the 1943-44 season. The 1943-44 season opening titles had vermilion rings on a dark red (almost black) background. The titles that were reissued initially were:

Let it Be Me (orig. release 5/9/36)
I Love to Singa (orig. release 7/18/36) (has original opening titles now)
Sunday Go to Meetin' Time (orig. release 8/8/36)
The Fella with a Fiddle (orig. release 3/27/37)
Plenty of Money and You (orig. release 7/31/37)
September in the Rain (orig. release 12/18/37)
My Little Buckeroo (orig. release 1/29/38)

I guess that would explain why the Blue Ribbon screen is notably darker in those cartoons than in other Blue Ribbonreissues.
