Image Entertainment did a good job a few years back compiling most of Ub Iwerks "Celebrity Productions" cartoons on DVD. But a few do not appear on that collection, what could be the reason for that? Couldn't they find sufficiently good prints, or are some films still under copyright, or what's the deal?

I believe Bosko Video has several of the missing Flip the Frog shorts on VHS.

Thunderbean Animation had nice copy of Little Black Sambo on its original DVD-R release Attack of the 30's Characters.

Bosko Video released some years ago a 5 volumes VHS series called "The Complete Adventures of Flip the Frog", collecting Flip's entire filmography.Thunderbean Animation had nice copy of Little Black Sambo on its original DVD-R release Attack of the 30's Characters.
Hey, does the print on that DVD have the original title card or is it the common Castle Films reissue?

I am not sure. The title card shows P.A. Powers presents a ComiColor Cartoon produced by Ub Iwerks Copyright 1935 by Celebrity Pictures... No mention of Official Pictures. Perhaps Steve could answer your question.

All of the cartoons on the "ATTACK" DVD have original or "reconstructed" original cards save "The Beachcombers" a 1936 Oswald cartoon. "Sambo" has the original Comicolor titlecards, and is sourced from a beautifully clean print. Shame it was pulled for the Mackinac re-release:rolleyes:

Del, could you (or anybody else here) post the original title cards? (Too bad I couldn't get a copy of the first edition of that DVD for myself! :( )

The Sambo on Attack of the 30's Characters is not perfect but it is still nice. Here are the opening credits.

For comparison, here is what you get from The Complete Weird Cartoons (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000YTPGG/qid=1147116225/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-0951312-6920635?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130).

Somehow UB IWERKS has become U.B. IWERKS!

In the rest of the cartoon, the Attack print seems to be in better condition.

That title card is on the Castle Films print.

Yeah, I think I've seen "U.B. Iwerks" in several places actually. Wonder where it comes from...
