View Full Version : Who is Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?
This new video has me seriously questioning the knowledge of some of the people at Disney... It sounds like they just took all of the information from the Lantz-O-Pedia and other sites!

Question for David (If you're reading...)
Where do you think RIVAL ROMEOS was sourced from?

I never even saw the video. All I saw was a van commercial. What was up with that?

Hi Cartman,
I had to watch the commercial as well but it should come up after that's over with. Try replaying it.
Enjoy!
Tom
P.S. David- I smell Stathescope! (a.k.a. Tom's Vintage Film) :rabbit:

It's the internet's way of shamelessly advertising whenever space is leftover to exploit.

Yes--nothing is left untouched. I could understand if it was a small site trying to render some sort of income for maintenance, but I see no need for Disney to exploit their own site.

Yeah, I was wondering if they had used the Lantz-o-Pedia as a source as well. Come on, how else would they have known about Oswald's cameo in "The Woody Woodpecker Polka"??:rabbit: :woody:

Ahem! maybe they should have credited where there info/footage came from (cough)
Well, on second thought, it might have been embarrasing for them to show they didn't have the resources right off the bat.

I suspect that someone at Disney mighta been forced to put that mini-documentary together overnight; thus the use of footage and information from whatever sources they had on hand. (This includes the historical data, which could have come from Toonopedia or Wikipedia as well as from the Lantz-O-Pedia.)
Interestingly, Rival Romeos may have been added to the documentary at the last minute. When it first went up online, the end credits listed the cartoon excerpts and didn't mention Rival Romeos. When I rewatched it later, the credits were revised to include it.
(And hey, Stathescope, you weren't the first guy to own that cartoon. Even sources have sources... harumphmmfcoughcough!)

At least they didn't say it was what Bugs Bunny used to be called, like The Weakest Link a few years ago.

Hehehe, I never heard that. However, it reminds me of this story (http://forums.toonzone.net/showpost.php?p=1092301&postcount=10)from one of my trips to Disney World. :bugs2: :rabbit:
Thanks for posting that link, Thad. It was cool to see some Oswald clips I hadn't seen before. I noticed that the clip made it look like a Lantz Oswald model sheet was a Disney one (a common mistake) and the narration it made it sound as if Disney now has all 26 of the original cartoons (a little misleading).

Well, they have the rights to market them finally, all they have to do now is locate most of 'em. Easier said than done, but mebbe they've found some of the missing ones already...Think we'll find out more come December 2007..;)

Oooh some people know more than they're letting on here, don't they? I'm hoping for some silent suprises on a future wave Treasures and it is encouraging to see a clip from Rival Romeos (a short Disney didn't used to have a copy of) in that clip. One thing I'm curious about is the status of "Hot Dog" and "Ride 'em Plow boy". I lost contact with someone who claimed to have copies of these a while back and I know it's something that one of our resident Oswald experts was trying to get to the bottom of...

Methinks you read too much between the lines Mac! Check the link out, it explains the situations just as well as you and I can! It's very likely the Disney Oswalds will appear in a future "Rarities" release, the question is "How many?":rabbit:

Thanks for the link, Rex. I saw that article on the Jim Hill site (and I suspect that the author may have got the info on which shorts still exist from posts on this forum). BTW do you know what happened about those Oswald cartoons (and a Felix) that popped up on ebay?

I've been in contact with the 'seller.' Info is very vague, but the films may wind up at Disney. The fate of the Felixes is yet to be discovered.

Thanks for the update, Tom. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
