View Full Version : Digiview "Toon Factory" DVDs?

Over on the Digiview website, I notice they list a bunch of DVDs in a series called "Toon Factory". While I am sure they are just mostly repeats from previous Cartoon Craze discs, there are two Daffy discs that might be interesting (titled "Scrap Happy Daffy" and "Daffy Duckaroo" --- both of those cartoons we haven't seen surface on Digiview discs yet):

Seeing that these DVDs run two hours or more, could it be possible that they will sell for more than a dollar each?

...is there any way to buy these from Digiview, or is it 'hit-or-miss' at Wal-Mart?

Digiview only sells directly to vendors in bulk. Wal-mart it is!
I picked up a few last Friday actually and they seem to be from a newer series (Not Toon Factory though). I was amazed to find FOUR MUSICIANS FROM BREMEN (Disney, 1923) and an oddity called STORY OF TIME which is an awesome stop-motion film made by Timex (if memory serves correctly.)
A couple Boskos had their original LT main/end titles intact as well. I was very impressed.:bosko:

...hate to bother you again - but I just got back from Wal-Mart and couldn't find them ANYWHERE - not up by the registers, where the $1 ones used to be, not back in the Media section...nowhere!...if you could tell me where they were in your Wal-Mart, that might help....
....and how much do they retail for?

The Wal-Marts in my area have started putting the $1 cartoon DVDs in the toy section.
Hope that helps!

That's the same situation in the location near my father's house.

Tom, which DVDs were those (titles)? Methinks I will pop over to our local Wallymart and drop them into my shopping cart.

Do Canadian Wal Mart outlets ever carry these dollar discs?
I rarely venture out to WM, but haven't come accross them yet on the few occassions I've found myself there...

Steve,
I had wondered that. The music sounded familiar and it had the same white pre-print lines which are apparent on your first Felix DVD which I have.

Hi Larry,
The Boskos are on "Casper & Bosko: There's Good Boos Tonight" (#KT-055)
I forget which exactly have original titles but the Boskos included are:
BOSKO SHIPWRECKED, BATTLING BOSKO, BIG MAN FROM THE NORTH, BOSKO AND HONEY, BOOZE HANGS HIGH, and AIN'T NATURE GRAND?

Thanks Tom, I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one. Are the prints very good?

They looked excellent to me, but don't take my word for it!
You'll enjoy the DVDS ;)

Did I see this just right: "Bugs Bunny Bound Rally."
They highlight a cartoon VHS tape with Any Bonds Today????? Okay, that's even more bizarre than that Bugs Bunny themed PD video I once saw where the only "Bugs Bunny" short was Prest-O Chang-o.

"Bugs Bunny Bond Rally" is on a few different Digiview DVDs. I hate to say it, but the quality is really, really good for a PD release...much better than the copy of "Bugs Bunny Bond Rally" on the "Cartoons For Victory" DVD. (Like I said, I hate to say it.) I am guessing it likely was copied from one of the "Golden Age Of Looney Tunes" laserdisc collections.
Interesting how a lot of these PD releases seem to have no qualms about being "politically correct." "Jungle Jitters" is all over the place, and "All This And Rabbit Stew" has shown up a few times. One of the Van Bueren Tom & Jerry cartoons ("Plane Dumb") has them disguising themselves in blackface.

Well, I guess it indicates what another poster here once said about most of the video production companies for these PD tapes having "No knowledge of what they're releasing." Any Bonds Today? is a freaking public service announcement (ie. not even a real cartoon short) and yet it somehow became the highlight of PD video!
And yeah, I've also noticed that a lot of these PD companies have no qualms about releasing banned cartoons. Particularly on supposedly "Children's themed" compilations. Would any self respecting parent really want to show her children something like All This And Rabbit Stew?
Heck, I'd venture to guess the reason why Daffy Duck And The Dinosaur is the highlight of so many PD comps is because the companies manufacturing these PD tapes know that "kids love dinosaurs."

Marty,
Anything PD can be the highlight of a compilation no matter how ridiculous it is. It's still an animated short, so I would see no problem putting it under the spotlight in this case.
I understand how the Digiview print being better than the Cartoons For Victory print may be an uncomfortable fact, though all it means is they duped from a better source or had a near-mint 16mm print to transfer from.
Has anyone seen the print Parents Approved Video used? I wonder what companies if any duped the ~20 year old mediocre transfer.

I picked up the Toon Factory "DAFFY DUCK: Daffy Duckaroo" 2 hour DVD at my local super Walmart yesterday and found that the title cartoon was a pretty good b&w version replacing my old chopped up & colorized version of the short. The bad news is that it had that tacked on "The End" closing - and the early part where Daffy keeps changing cowboy hats to a smaller size still has that jolting stop in the action and sound too ! It also has a Cubby Bear cartoon titled "Croon Crazy" that I didn't have, which has some condition issues. I didn't see Scrap Happy Daffy.:daffy:

I finally saw the Toon Factory DVDS in one of the Wal Marts in my area, but I didn't really see anything on them that wasn't on the Cartoon Craze DVDs.

Yeah, I was just in a Walmart in Northern VA and they were also moved to the Toy Section (the same isle that has the coloring books).
I picked up a couple of them today to add to the collection. --RickWJ324

Is anything edited from the shorts? Missing original title cards don't bother me as long as there's actually an opening and closing to the cartoon. Also, are there any sound effects added or lost? I HATED those on the Casper DVD from Goodtimes and when I heard that they were on the Cartoon Craze DVDs I never bought one.

The only cartoons on the "Cartoon Craze" DVDs which have added sound effects are some of the Popeye shorts on the early volumes (which are repeated again on other discs). Other than that, most of it is pretty good.
You might be thinking of a different series, the similarly named "Cartoon Crazies" (with an "I") which were released by Winstar.

On the TOON FACTORY: DAFFY DUCKAROO DVD, they "blurred" the faces of all the characters at the end of "Fresh Hare". I think this one went unaltered on previous Digiview discs.

Well, I'll give that edit points for originality, but still... This has to be one of the dumbest moves by a PD company to date.

Funny it has taken this long for them to catch up to the PC issues of today.
